Remake Of PS2-Era FPS “XIII” In The Works
Here’s something we never saw coming: the cult classic cel-shaded first-person spy shooter XIII, based on the European comic book, is getting a remake. The original appeared on Playstation 2, Gamecube and the original XBox back in the early 2000s.
Just so we’re clear, this is not a remaster or a republished version of the original XIII. This is a ground-up remake using modern graphics that will likely and unavoidably sport many differences. If what you want is the same game, well, the same game is on eBay. Developer PlayMagic taking something like XIII into their hands could be a good thing, or a bad thing…we’ll just have to wait and see.
“The PlayMagic team is very excited for the opportunity to remake a true classic; modernizing the graphics, sound and animations while remaining faithful to the original XIII’s incredible look and feel,” says Giuseppe Crugliano, CEO & Creative Director at PlayMagic Ltd. “XIII’s gameplay mechanics are being reworked in an effort to modernize the experience in a way that encompasses the original spirit of the game. We are sure that the fans of the original game will love rediscovering one of their all time favorites while new players discover a truly iconic masterpiece in a new light.”
The new XIII is targeted for a Fall 2019 release on Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, XBox One, Mac and PC. We may learn more at E3 in two months. Until then, here’s a little teaser.
Play as «Thirteen», a talented soldier who lost his memory and has been accused of killing the President of the United States. You wake up injured and amnesic on Brighton Beach with the only clue being a small key and a mysterious tattoo « XIII » next to your clavicle. It’s now your job to search for answers in the 34 levels of the solo campaign. Don’t worry, you will find the appropriate weapon arsenal along the way.
