Reality Lands On Greenlight, Kickstarter
</reality>, a character-focused exploration of some heavy metaphysical questions, inspired by films such as The Matrix and Inception, has landed on Steam Greenlight and Kickstarter. Players will make frequent choices which can change the story in both subtle and major ways – from simple dialogue choices – to affecting the character’s psychological state – to re-directing the course of the entire narrative and conclusion.
In our increasingly tech-saturated world, </reality> imagines a near future in which virtual reality has become the norm and the lines between reality and fantasy have blurred. The game is an open-minded look at how we think of our own reality and whether what we “know” to be real truly matters – or, is it only our perceptions of our realities which makes any difference in our lives? Fancy Fish developer Natalie Maletz spoke about the game, saying:
“We hope that players will be excited to re-play the game and see all of the possibilities their choices can lead to – every ending shows a different answer to the big questions posed by the story. We also hope that players will come away from the game with theories and answers of their own – especially in terms of how these themes might relate to their real lives.”
In this interactive novel, Lilya Martel has the opportunity to test a revolutionary virtual reality console, made by tech developer Jacob Lessard, that feels more “real” than reality itself. But when everything Lilya and Jacob assume about reality is thrown into question, they must confront their own beliefs about the nature of existence. </reality> is set to have a number of features upon release, including:
- A thought-provoking, philosophy-inspired story with several mind-bending twists, and two perspective characters – over 90,000 words
- A plethora of choices that really matter. Your decisions can change a character’s outlook, place them on a different story branch, or affect how the entire game ends.
- Expressive character art and illustrative visuals – 14+ characters, each with various poses/expressions, 12+ background scenes, 16+ CGs/special illustrations, 15+ ending panels.
- In-depth character development, affected by your choices, and with opportunities for relationship-building (romantically and non-romantically). Romance is completely optional, and may be pursued from either Lilya or Jacob’s perspective.
- Original soundtrack and sound design
