Ready Or Not, Here Comes Peacemaker
Peacemaker has dedicated his life to achieving peace, and he doesn’t care how many men, women and children he has to murder to get it. John Cena’s whacked-out “hero” leaps from silver screen to living room screen in his own self-titled series coming to HBO Max early next year.
We first met Peacemaker in last summer’s DC movie The Suicide Squad. Note the all-important “THE” which will have to be used in all discussions of this movie hereafter because WB didn’t want to use a “2” for some reason. If video rental stores were still a thing, two films called “Suicide Squad” and “The Suicide Squad” released within three years of each other and starring some of the same characters would have been a real problem. “No, the OTHER one.”
The post-credits scene from The Suicide Squad reveals Peacemaker survived, but his comment here about “breaking in” his suit would indicate this takes place before he took on that movie’s mission. ….Or maybe he just got a new suit that’s identical to his previous one. In this brief teaser scene, new suit or old, he doesn’t seem to be getting much respect for it.
It’s kind of surprising Peacemaker of all characters would be getting his own show, given that he was the villain in The Suicide Squad (okay, they were all villains, but Peacemaker was a villain to the other villains). Perhaps WB couldn’t resist the star power of Cena, even if you only see half his face. Other returning actors include Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee as agents Emilia Harcourt and John Economos respectively. James Gunn, the force that made the movie so good, is also involved in the show, having written all eight episodes and directed several.
Watch for Peacemaker to make his unwarranted entrance onto HBO Max this January.
