Rayman Legends Delayed: Devs Disagree with Ubisoft’s Decision
As you’ve probably read by now as you were gripped firmly by the seething maw of the internet’s rage, Rayman Legends for the Wii U is not only no longer exclusive, it’s also been pushed back approximately 7 months to coincide with the launch of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game.
If you wonder why this may be a big deal to some it’s because it’s a low blow to all the Wii U supporters that were eagerly awaiting this game. Currently the Wii U gaming landscape is sparsely occupied, even though the titles appear to be a lot of fun they just aren’t cutting it for hardcore gamers. As an exclusive that was due out on Febuary 26th you could imagine how you would feel if a game you were eagerly awaiting was pushed back another 7 months.
The real kicker, and the thing most Nintendo fans are angry about, isn’t that the game is no longer exclusive. For all intents and purposes it appears that the Wii U version will still be the go to with features you can’t get anywhere else. What is really irking most is that the game is completely done and ready for release at this point on the Wii U and the only reason they have to wait is for the other versions.
Personally, I think this is a huge mistake that will only hurt the games sales. Here in Febuary there isn’t a lot of competition for the game, but here Ubisoft is talking about pushing the game clear back into the release territory of GTA V and other smash hits. Really one doesn’t have to look really hard to see this move doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
Seems like Rayman creator Michael Ancel and the Rayman Legends team at Ubisoft Montpellier aren’t too pleased with it either. Pictures were posted to the internet of the team posing with a fan holding signs reading “Release Rayman, Support Ubi Montpellier.” The drawing of Rayman (seen on the right) is crying and voice bubble says “Please”.
Other pictures show members of the team holding up signs with the recent (now delayed) French release date of “28/2/13” on them. While it doesn’t seem they were officially protesting themselves they are certainly siding with the gamers on this.
You can sign a petition here for the game to be released on it’s standard date. Don’t expect much from it, but hey you never know. Either way we’ll keep you posted on any updates to the release date and continue to look forward to it’s release date along with you. At least in the end even more people will be able to experience the game, and that can never be a bad thing for the consumer.
