Quentin Tarantino is still Unapologetic of his portrayal of Bruce Lee
Quentin Tarantino told the people who don’t like his portrayal of Bruce Lee to suck a d___. In an interview of Quentin Tarantino at Joe Rogan experience, He remained firm on his stance. He said he understands if Bruce Lee’s daughter got offended but not other people. It is his movie after all so he has all the freedom to do what he wants. That scene is tasteless and disrespectful but that is his vision. People can make their own movies that can be a rebuttal to his. When Max Landis said Asian actors don’t draw, Asian August 2018 happened. Now in recent Hollywood Box Office, Asian actors proved they can draw!
There are films that have portrayed Bruce Lee more respectably. I will watch just watch those movies instead. Tarantino does have a history of Asians being jobbers in his movies. Kill Bill is one of the most specific example I can give.
Joe Rogan kept his cool during this interview.
I am not sure if Tarantino was aware but Joe Rogan is a Bruce Lee fan and one of the people who doesn’t like that scene. Here is his criticism of Once Upon a time in Hollywood. Kudos to him for maintaining his composure because the whole interview could have focused on that topic.
Bruce is a movie icon not just for Asian Americans, Chinese people, and Asian people. He is a standard of Martial arts movies. Even when Hollywood doesn’t like him, He managed to make globally popular movies. In an older interview, I remember Tarantino saying, Yes, Bruce Lee can beat Brad Pitt in a fight but not his character Cliff Booth who has military combat experience. Tarantino’s Cliff is like Paul Anderson’s Alice. Self insert characters that they push so hard to glorify.
Shannon Lee is the number one critic of his controversial scene. This interview shows how much she feels about that controversial scene.
