PS4 Hits Two Million Units Sold in UK, Selling Faster Than PS2
It’s not hard to concern yourself will sales in other countries. After all, you don’t live there, and as long as you get the game you want, and the console or handheld to play it on, why should you care?
This does not hold true for the companies behind the consoles. Every sale in every country matters. Mainly because not only does it tell them how good, or how bad, they are doing. But it can allow them to change strategy in order to fulfill or increase demand. And that can the determining factor on whether they win the console war for that generation.
The current leader for this “next-generation” console is Sony and their PS4. They revealed today to MCVUK that their console has crossed the two million unit sold mark in the UK. Why is that significant? Well, the time it took to do so was actually faster than their best selling console, the PS2, did in its run. The PS4 reached the milestone in roughly 18 months.
PlayStation’s UK Boss Fergal Gara noted what this achievement meant to Sony:
“To be the best selling ‘next generation’ console in Britain – installing faster even than the PlayStation 2 – is testament to an amazing and constantly improving product, the hard work of our trade partners and the team at PlayStation UK, and most importantly, the passion of the players. I would like to thank every one involved in helping us achieve this landmark.”
Currently, the PS4 is at 22.3 million units sold worldwide. If sales keep going? It’ll shatter more milestones soon.
