Promare Encore Showing Comes With Bonus Short “Side: Galo”
Promare, the new anime film from Studio Trigger, pulled in better box office numbers than expected for distributor GKIDS — so the movie is coming back later this year, and it’ll have something extra it didn’t have before.
The ten minute short “Side: Galo,” which serves as a prequel to Promare, will premiere in the US for the first time before this particular showing. GKIDS did not provide a synposis, but it’s a much better bonus than the typical “interview with voice actor” featurette we were expecting.
Promare is the first feature film from the famed Studio Trigger. These days, people can’t get enough Trigger — their forceful, weighty animation and visual pizazz has made them fan favorites. They’ve been contracted to create animated sequences for a few recent video games. They were the ones behind Kill la Kill, Gurran Lagann and Little Witch Academia, and Hiroyuki Imaishi (who directed the latter two) is behind Promare.
Thirty years has passed since the appearance of the Burnish, a race of flame-wielding mutant beings, who destroyed half of the world with fire. When a new group of aggressive mutants calling themselves Mad Burnish appears, the epic battle between Galo Thymos, a new member of the anti-Burnish rescue team Burning Rescue, and Lio Fotia, the leader of Mad Burnish begins.
The new showings will be the subtitled versions only. Promare will return to theaters December 8 at 12:55 PM local time — check your listings for the screening nearest you. Tickets went on sale as of yesterday.
