Preview: Akaneiro Demon Hunters
When a game comes from the same developers that brought you Alice Madness Returns, you know your in for a crazy time and a unique concept. With Akaneiro Demon Hunters the gaming word is set to get just that, with a unique setting to the action RPG genre and a beautiful art style that looks like the love child of Okami and Diablo.
Akaneiro is a game that is set in turn of century edo Japan and follows a battle hardened Red Hunter. These hunters strive to rid the world of various Yokai, which stem directly from popular Japanese myth and folklore. As a member of the Order of Akane you are part of an elite and ancient sect of warriors whose devotion to duty and righteousness is nearly religious in it’s fervor. As you quell the Yokai by force you’ll do so in the gorgeous backdrop of a hand painted world.
Though currently it’s unsure whether you play as one character that you further define over time, or multiple hunters that you choose from, either way you’ll be given great control over the customization of your character development as you choose stats, ablities, and specializations to match your playstyle. A fully randomized item system with rare drops given out from even rarer beasts the game promises to be filled with enticing loot. On top of all that you’ll be able to somehow manage a team of hunters and compete with other teams and earn rewards within the Order of Akane.
Overall I’m very excited about a setting we don’t see much of in games and certainly not within the ARPG genre. Akaneiro Demon Hunters is set to release sometime in 2012 through mobile and PC platforms.
Watching the trailer and browing the art of the official page has me stoked for more information, which hopefully we will get when we interview Spicy Horse later this week!
