Powers: Comic Creator Says TV Series Is “No More”
Comics writer and Powers creator Brian Michael Bendis delivered some bad news today for fans of the live-action TV series based on his seminal comic series. According to posts by Bendis on his Twitter account, the Powers TV series has been cancelled after two seasons. You can read Bendis’ tweets on the status of the live-action PlayStation Network original series below.
Powers Season 2 recently launched on the PlayStation Network. The show is free for PlayStation Plus subscribers. The show stars Sharlto Copley, Susan Heyward, Noah Taylor, Olesya Rulin, Adam Godley, Max Fowler, and Michael Madsen. It followed Christian Walker (Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Heyward), police detectives who investigate cases involving people with superpowers.
Bendis’ tweets did suggest there could be hope in the future for the show because he said the show is no more “for now.” However, he later commented that one episode of the show received 4.5 million hits on YouTube, and there are some people behind-the-scenes who believe in the series. Whether that actually materializes to bring the show back in some form later on remains to be seen.
Both seasons of Powers, consisting of 20 episodes, can still be viewed on the PlayStation Network. Still, that the show got made is pretty significant. It was previously being developed as an FX TV series, and a pilot was even shot, but it never got picked up as a series. Not only that, it was developed as a theatrical film at one point that never got off the ground either. So at least Bendis and the producers have a show that managed to last for two seasons to hang their hat on.
this is hard to tweet, but word is that @POWERStheSERIES is sadly, no more. season 2 was the last. at least for now. 1/2
