A big surprise came from the PlayStation Experience, as Tim Schaffer came on stage to announce a new Psychonauts game that would be coming exclusively to the PlayStation VR. Titled: Psychonauts: In the Rhombus of Ruin, the game would be a bridge between the original Psychonauts, and the upcoming Psychonauts 2, which is slated to come in 2018. A new teaser trailer was also released for the game.
“It’s first-person, Raz will have the ability to project his psyche onto other peoples’ brains, so he has a unique way of getting around and manipulating the world,” Creative Director Tim Schafer said during the presentation.
“Psychonauts ends with them taking off to rescue Truman Zanotto, Lili’s dad, head of the Psychonauts,” Schafer explained. “Psychonauts 2 arrives with them landing at the Psychonauts headquarters having rescued Truman Zanotto, ready to explore the actual world of the Psychonauts with Raz as a Psychonaut, seeing actual agents in action.”
The Rhombus of Ruin is a first-person puzzle-focused story of that rescue mission, with Raz using his telekinesis, pyrokinesis, and other powers. You can check out the new teaser trailer for In the Rhombus of Ruin in the player below. The game is scheduled for a 2018 release for the PlayStation 4.
