PlayStation 4 Reaches Over 50 Million Units Sold
It looks like it was definitely a good year for Sony PlayStation. Coming right off of the Sony PlayStation Experience 2016, a report by Reuters indicated that the Sony Corp. revealed this week that the PlayStation 4 console has sold more than 50 million units.
This number was reached as of December 6, thanks to the strong demand for the console in stores for the holiday shopping season. The PlayStation originally launched in late 2013. To date, it has been Sony’s fastest-selling game console. It definitely appears that Sony has learned from its mistakes with the PlayStation 3.
Additionally, it was also reported that the PlayStation 4 sales surpassed Xbox One on Cyber Monday sales. And, while Xbox One had stronger sales on Black Friday, PlayStation 4 unit sales surpassed Xbox One in November overall. In total, the PlayStation 4 started 2016 with about 36 million units sold, so it’s sold about 14 million additional consoles throughout the year. The year isn’t over yet, so it could still sell considerably more for Christmas time.
So, it looks like Sony PlayStation is going to have a very nice and lucrative holiday season this year. It looks like Xbox One will have its work cut out for it next year with the upcoming launch of Project Scorpio, which is the next Xbox console.
