Playstation 2 Games Are Coming To Playstation 4, Starting With Dark Cloud 2
The European software ratings board PEGI may have leaked an announcement ahead of the Tokyo Game Show. They’ve recently posted new ratings tags for PS4 versions of PS2 games — the website Gematsu first found the entries. They are for Ape Escape 2, Twisted Metal: Black, and most awesomely (if you ask me), Dark Cloud 2.
For those of you who might automatically assume we mean backwards compatiblity….we don’t. From what we’ve observed, Sony is unlikely to budge on BC unless Microsoft’s emulation efforts make a significant difference (it did; sales shot up after BC was announced, but Sony has yet to notice and may not). Besides, if you remember, Sony’s take on BC is somewhat different — they still have plans to charge people a flat fee to stream in games from their past library.
But they’ll still let you buy a game outright on the Playstation Network, and until now, there have been no Playstation 2 games on the service. Sony is apparently about to announce Playstation 2 games will be downloadable, most likely at TGS.
If you’ve never played Dark Cloud 2, developed by Level 5 (Professor Layton, Yo-Kai Watch) it’s one of the best games the Playstation 2 had. Between exploring, random dungeoning and item creationing, you’ll be kept busy for weeks with it. This is assuming Dark Cloud 2 will be released digitally in America as well.
