Pistola: Rectifier Lands On Kickstarter
Pistola: Rectifier, a hybrid Action/RPG that also features a comprehensive racing simulator and several other minigame mechanics for PC/Mac, has landed on Kickstarter. It is a narrative-driven, Space Opera style story set in an original universe with a rich backstory/lore to discover. You will fight, race, fly, shoot, and explore the stars while pursuing a definitive mission that will ultimately open the door to an expanding story and universe. Add this with a heavy focus on classically animated 2D visuals, and it’s been best described as Paper Mario meets Mass Effect.
Describing the plot of the game, developers Whacky Shack Studios have said:
“Hundreds of years in the future, mankind is locked in the middle of a bloody war against an unrelenting alien empire and a malevolent inter-dimensional force. As alliances dwindle and imposing threats grow ever stronger, humanity’s survival hinges upon a motley crew of wandering outlaws… aboard the Pistola, lead by the infamous Crash Lodestar. A group of drifting corsairs caught in the middle of an ever expanding conflict, they traverse the remote fringes of pirate controlled space in search of fortune and purpose. But surviving the lawless void depends on Crash’s mysteriously granted powers, and the journey to understand them willdetermine the fate of the entire galaxy.”
Each environment is a unique, digitally painted map that the player will traverse in 3D due to implied perspective. The end result is somewhere between pixel art, classic hand drawn animation, and the pre-rendered 3D gameplay of certain PS1 RPGs we all know and love. Though the game is primarily an action RPG, gameplay will take on several forms, according to Whacky Shack Studios. You will travel to several different planets, piloting a ship and exploring on foot. The many worlds you visit will have multiple unique 2-dimensionally presented locations that you traverse in 3D. To reach each destination, your crew will jump from system to system aboard the Pistola: Rectifier.
