Phantasy Star Online 2 official service begins July 4th (in Japan)
Phantasy Star Online 2 is currently in open beta for the Japanese (and anyone else with the know-how) right now, and today Sega have announced the game’s official launch in Japan will be July 4th.
Sega have revealed that PSO2’s official release servers will go live on July 4th, with the open beta ending just the day before. Sega have also revealed that the games’ open beta saw 500,000 registered users which, according to Sega, makes it the largest open beta in Japan’s history.
PSO2 is a free-to-play MMORPG, the sequel to the Dreamcast’s original Phantasy Star Online. Players can play the game for free, but they can also choose to buy ‘Arcs Cash’ with real money to buy in-game items.
It’s still uncertain whether PSO2 will be coming to the West, but hopefully it will since it’s free and there’s also a possible Vita port in the works.
Sega also released this trailer to celebrate the announcement:
