DC Comics Solicitations October 2023
DC just revealed everything it plans to release in the month of October. Here are the highlights… It had to happen. With DC’s parent company Warner Bros holding the movie rights to King Kong and Godzilla (in the US) it was only a matter of time before the two most well-known characters in kaiju history clashed with the Justice League. How’d they arrive in the DCU and what’s their goal? Find out in this 40-page issue written by Brian Buccellato with art by Christian Duce. The most recent run of Superman is #7, but if you counted them all you’d get #850, so just this month they’re sticking the proper number there so they have the excuse to put out a special 48-page issue. But be aware this is not a stand-alone storyline; it’s the latest chapter in Supe’s “The Chained” story. Supeman #850 comes out October 17. Amazons Attack….Again! How many times have the denizens of Themascyra been driven to combat? How many times has a story with this

Soulslike RPG Kristala Launches Kickstarter
The dark, action-oriented games of From Software have inspired their own genre, usually referred to as a “Soulslike” after their series Dark Souls. Astral Clocktower Studios, an all-female-owned team, have been working on their own Soulslike for some time, and are finally ready to show it off in the game’s crowdfunding campaign. The game is called Kristala, and it feels a lot like Dark Souls except…you’re a cat. In fact, most of the beings in the world you’re prowling around are anthropomorphic cat people. Your goal is to uncover the source of a dark curse and restore peace to the mysterious fantasy world of Ailur. Along the way dozens of enemies will cross your path and the only way through them is to hack and slash — yet it’s not so straightforward. Since this is an RPG, you will constantly be leveling up, upgrading your armor and wespons. You can assign special skills to some weapons that will enable abilities during combat. You’ll also make use of magic, drawing from

SDCC 2023: Watchmen, Crisis To Become Animated Movies
Most of DC’s animated superhero movies of late have been adaptions of famous one-shot stories from their library…and they’re kind of running out of them. Their next two projects were announced at SDCC this weekend, and both of them have been adapted before in other media. Crisis On Infinite Earths and Watchmen will be released in 2024. The latter, of course, was adapted as a live-action movie by Zack Snyder in 2009, and how you feel about it pretty much depends on your opinion of Snyder as a whole. Then it was continued in the form of an HBO miniseries (WHICH WAS EXCELLENT). Crisis was adapted in 2019 by Greg Berlanti to serve as the ultimate shining moment of the Arrowverse, with all his shows (and many others) coming together to fight one threat. If you count the animated film Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths, then Crisis has already been done as a cartoon! Of course, a lot of things were changed there (like reducing the number of Earths
SDCC 2023: Tiny Toons Looniversity Releases Full Theme Song
Bruce Broughton’s Tiny Toons theme is a work of art, lively and infectious while managing to sound like something that would have played in an actual Looney Tunes short. It’s also one of the most heavily nostalgic melodies this reporter knows, having heard it hundreds of times during my youth. They didn’t mess with perfection for Tiny Toons Looniversity, the reboot coming later this year. You can now see the theme in its entirety thanks to an SDCC panel. That same panel actually played the first two episodes for its audience; I was not there, but someone writing for Gizmodo was privileged enough. “My favorite was the one that centers on Hamton having an identity crisis over going to med-school on deferred admission or staying with his friends—who because of Toon DNA are basically invincible and don’t need medical attention until a villain steps in with some reversal potion that spills into the Looniversity’s water source. The genius of that bonkers premise is executed shockingly with soft violence but hilarious,
SDCC 2023: TMNT The Last Ronin II Announced
Kevin Eastman’s The Last Ronin, a TMNT story set in a hypothetical dark future where Michelangelo is the last living Turtle, was a huge hit for publisher IDW. It made the New York Times bestseller list and drove the company to introduce expansions like a prequel called Lost Years and even a book consisting of just the covers. Now it’s time for the next step, as Eastman and IDW announce The Last Ronin II. Turns out the Ronin wasn’t so “last” after all! It’s a bit of a spoiler as to how this story continues, so if you haven’t read the original Last Ronin yet and don’t want to know, skip this next paragraph… The original book ended with the reveal of four surviving mutant furtles, Yi, Uno, Odyn, and Moja, who were now growing up under the care and tutelage of their sensei, Casey Marie (April and Casey’s daughter). The new series will pick things up from there, following the Next Generation Turtles as they defend New York’s future.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match
Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match, an animated movie set to release for home video. It delves into the intriguing tale of a Hollywood actor’s unexpected journey. How the hell did he end up in a deadly fighting tournament. The film showcases a young Johnny Cage. Long before he becomes Sonya’s husband and Cassie’s father. Notably, the art style is a complete feast for the eyes, reminiscent of the 1980s box cover arts for action figures. Now brought to life with smoother animation and more frames per second. This movie, produced by Ed Boon, the creator of the Mortal Kombat games, ensures careful handling. Comedian Joel McHale gets to play Johnny Cage and he is able to portray him with flying colors. Kelly Hu gets to voice her 3rd Mortal Kombat character as she voices the 3d-era character Ashra. She previously played D’vorah in Mortal Kombat X and 11. In the Upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 she is going to play Li Mei. Dusan Brown plays Chuck Golden, a Steve Urkel adjacent
SDCC 2023: Checking In On Rick And Morty
Rick and Morty is in an interesting place. Halfway through a massive gazillion-episode order, the show’s co-creator got into a scandal and had to leave. Behind-the-scenes stories suggest Justin Roiland hasn’t contributed any serious part to Rick and Morty‘s writing in years, so there will be no changes there. The one thing he DID do, though, is voice the two central characters in every episode. Now there’s a hole. Solar Opposites chose to deliberately cast a different-sounding actor, but according to executive producer Steve Levy at the SDCC Rick and Morty panel, they’re trying to find VAs who can get as close to the original Mr. Sanchez and Mr. Smith as possible. This takes a bit more effort and a lot more time. According to Levy the entirety of Season 7 is “in the can,” but the recast has slowed post-production and made it harder to predict when the season could be ready for release. There wasn’t even a trailer for us this time. It’s more likely we’ll be getting
