Game Of Thrones Season 7 Begins April 14
Nearly two years. That’s how long Game of Thrones fans have had to wait for any real word from the series. The drought is at last over, and the gang is here (and so is winter). HBO confirmed today Game of Thrones’ final season begins April 14. There’s more! The announcement came with this teaser, depicting the surviving members of the Stark family gathering in the Crypts of Winterfell to look cool and pose with swords. But what’s that coming up from behind them, boxing them in, swooping in for the attack? It’s literally winter! Jon steels his sword. Prepare to taste steel, frost! Also, if tradition holds, this thumbnail will be the visual aesthetic HBO goes with when they print the Season 8 Blu-Ray covers: HBO CEO Richard Plepler told the press “It’s a spectacle. The guys have done six movies. The reaction I had while watching them was, ‘I’m watching a movie. They knew the bar was high. They’ve exceeded the bar. I’ve watched them twice without any
This Rejected Darkwing Duck Game Is Worthy Of The Hat And Mask
Anyone remember Capcom’s Darkwing Duck video game? If you were an NES owner, you most likely do…Capcom worked wonders with Disney licenses back in the day. Recently, developer Headcannon pitched a sequel to the Darkwing game. Capcom still holds the rights, and they allowed a 2013 sequel to their DuckTales game, but unfortunately, they did not bite this time. You may know Headcannon for their work on Sonic Mania, regarded as the best Sonic of the last decade. Rather than letting all that work sit in a drawer, Headcannon decided to upload videos of their pitch demo. It features creative contributions from Aaron Sparrow and James Silvani, the respective writer and artist behind Boom Studios’ Darkwing Duck comic book (now sadly cancelled, but amazing while it lasted). There aren’t any voices, but similar to DuckTales Remastered, the goal was to re-hire as much of the original voice cast as possible, with the exception of Christine Cavanaugh who has the double excuse of being retired since 2002 and also dead. For
Aquaman Official Crosses $1 Billion At The Box Office
What’s that? The DC Comics movie universe is doomed? …no one told that to Aquaman. In what might just be one of the biggest surprises in recent years, Aquaman has officially taken its place as not only the king of the DCEU, but as one of the few movies ever to cross $1 billion dollars at the worldwide Box Office. This happened in just its fourth weekend, and though it didn’t get No.1 at the US box office for the fourth week in a row, it got enough between it and the global box office to cross the $1 billion dollar point. It’s not the first DC Comics film to break one billion, that goes to Dark Knight, and then Dark Knight Rises, but it does have the ability to pass them for the true No.1 spot. In fact, at this point in time, it’s already passed Dark Knight. With Rises likely to fall to it soon. Many MCU films have crossed one million dollars, but it’s still quite a
The Minecraft Movie Is Back On
Warner Bros. has made a mint off The Lego Movie and its subsequent spinoffs. Now they’re looking for the next hit, and the stereotypical execu-think is to find the most similar thing possible. What’s popular and closest to Legos, mechanically speaking? Minecraft! WB purchased the rights to a Minecraft movie in 2014. Ideally, they would have had a movie out by now, but the Hollywood machine doesn’t always run smoothly, and what’s been stalling the Minecraft film is a common problem: they can’t pin down a director. Shawn Levy, Rob McElhenney, and even Steve Carell have been attached to direct at some point (yes, Carell was going to direct). Now WB feels they’ve found the right guiding hand: Peter Sollett, director of the critically acclaimed “Raising Victor Vargas,” but more commonly known as the guy who did “Nick & Nora’s Infinite Playlist.” Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Jon Berg are listed as producers, and Mojang, the creators of Minecraft, will oversee for authenticity. The news was broken by Variety, who also

Final Destination Could Be Resurrected
Did you know the Final Destination series got its start as a rejected pitch for an X-Files episode? How cool would it have been to see Mulder and Scully try to outwit Death itself? But that never happened, and instead New Line Cinema bought the pitch in movie form. There are five Final Destination films in existence, all with the same threadbare plot: there’s this group of young whippersnappers. One of them has a prophetic dream warning them of an impending disaster that will kill them all. Because of the dream, they avoid the disaster….but the Grim Reaper is so mad, he decides their deaths now have to be ten times as ridiculous and over-the-top as they would have been. So each individual member of that group unwittingly enters a room full of deadly traps and objects, naively positions themselves in the path of danger, and a crazy Rube Goldberg chain reaction lacerates them in inventive and insane ways until they bite it. There’s a fright factor in having Death
Stellar Interface Launches On Switch
Portugese developer Imagination Overflow has combined the traditional space shooter with the exploration elements of a roguelike to create Stellar Interface, which arrives on Switch today. Much deeper than a mindless shooter, Stellar Interface gives you an entire randomly-generated galaxy to explore. As you progress through the game, you’ll unlock more powerful spacecrafts with new gameplay styles, but your enemies will evolve as well. Stellar Interface can be played in three modes: Classic, Endless Wave (where you play until you explode), and Lost mode, which is technically two modes in one — it enhances Classic or Endless Wave to make them much harder! The Wii U Is Already A Collector’s Item
When the Wii U was discontinued one year ago, we warned you they were only going to become more scarce from there, and that it was the perfect time to either buy one (if you didn’t own one) or buy a complete-in-box sealed unit (for investment purposes). Now’s the time to either cash in on that investment, or kick yourself for not listening to us. The common belief would be that the Wii U holds no value, because everybody hates the controller and half of its good exclusives have been ported to the Switch now. One thing, I disagree about the controller….second thing, Switch still doesn’t have a Netflix app (this is the main reason I still have my Wii U plugged in)….third, there’s plenty of value left in Wii U. And we mean “value” in both the fun factor and the financial sense. The Wii U had the lowest production rate of any of Nintendo’s home consoles, with just over 13 million out there. Complete and untouched Wii Us
The Punisher Season 2: Second Trailer
It wasn’t that long ago we got our first trailer for The Punisher Season 2. It was just last week, in fact. But as we pointed out then and will re-point out now, Netflix is rushing this season out so they can wash their hands of all things Marvel and, by extension, Disney. Why help their future competition? So…two trailers in two weeks, and the actual series not too long after that (NEXT week). The previous trailer was focused entirely on Jigsaw, Frank’s new enemy that he wound up creating during the climax of the previous season. In the comics, he’s called Jigsaw because they had to reconstruct his face Frankenstein-style. Here, he’s barely scarred, which makes him look more vain in his act of revenge than anything else. Good thing he wears a mask that distorts his mug properly. It’s in this trailer that we get our first real look at the season’s other villain, John Pilgrim — a fundamentalist who frequently breaks the Commandments. We find out Frank
New Premiere Dates For The CW’s iZombie, The 100 And More
The CW’s midseason lineup is on the way and it’s time to start juggling shows again. The good news is that iZombie finally has a premiere date. The not-so-good news is that it’s a four month wait. This is the fifth and final season for iZombie, and seeing as it’s a dead show walking (how ironic), The CW has given it the dreaded summer run, announcing a premiere of May 2. It will run Thursdays at 8. Of course, The 100 has managed to survive for several seasons in a summer slot, so maybe it’s not too bad. THAT show will premiere its sixth season April 30, taking up the Tuesday 9 PM slot currently occupied by Roswell, New Mexico. Before either of them come back, Jane the Virgin will return first, also running its final season starting Wednesday, March 27. It’ll continue to run Wednesdays at 9 until its episode count runs dry for the final time. This may not truly be the end for Jane, as The CW
Flame Fatales 2023 Raises $110,835 for Malala Fund
Last week Games Done Quick organized another Flame Fatales event: the summer marathon for the Frame Fatales, a group of female video game speedrunners. The event ran from Sunday, August 13 through Saturday, August 20, and a lot of cool stunts and glitches were performed. But the real purpose of the Flame (and Frost) Fatales runs is to raise money for Malala Fund, a non-profit organization devoted to the education of young girls worldwide (which is harder to get in some countries than others). Though it’s a quieter event than GDQ’s summer and winter marathons, and doesn’t run for 24 hours a day, it’s no slouch either — this year’s Flame Fatales raised over a hundred thousand bucks. The full archive of Flame Fatales 2023 speedruns can be watched at any time on the GDQ YouTube channel. Here are a couple of runs we found most interesting: Did you know you can beat Pokemon Blue in one hour — and in REVERSE order? That means challenging the last Gym Leader
New Max Toon Trailers: Tiny Toons, Fionna And Cake
It’s almost time for Max (the streamer, not the rich brat) to release a couple of cartoons with well-known stars that we’ve been waiting for a long time. Both will finally make their television debuts within a month. First up is Tiny Toons Looniversity, a reboot of the beloved 1990s animated series, itself based on the classic Looney Tunes shorts. However Babs, Buster, Plucky and Hamton aren’t total ripoffs of Bugs, Daffy and Porky. The original show took the shorts as inspiration to make a new breed of WB cartoon wackiness that built on what came before it yet formed its own identity. Tiny Toons Looniversity, in turn, is more of an inspiration than a direct continuation of Tiny Toon Adventures. It’s a different bunch of toons; even if they look the same, they are not (Buster and Babs share DNA this time). Let’s hope it turns out as good. Next up is Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, which — if the trailer released yesterday is any indication — has
