Universal’s Invisible Man Hasn’t Vanished
Universal’s “DARK UNIVERSE!!!!” will be the butt of jokes among film buffs for quite some time. It was one of the biggest, loudest examples of the still-current “expanded cinematic universe” craze, which to date only Marvel has successfully pulled off. Although when we say that, we’re referring to present history. Universal was technically the first to create a successful cinematic universe with their “Monsters” films of the 1930s. The Universal of our time got overconfident and thought they could repeat the phenomenon just by doing it again. It was not that simple — you need audience support, and the Dark Universe was greeted with apathy by the movie-going public. Just one film under the Dark Universe banner was released; a joyless remake of The Mummy starring Tom Cruise. But all of the monsters from Universal’s old stable were ready to make comebacks, and at least one of them is still hanging on. According to Variety, The Invisible Man is still on Universal’s production schedule and Leigh Whannell, director of “Upgrade,”
The Flashback Interview: Becky LeBeau
Dive into the multifaceted world of Becky LeBeau, an icon of ’80s pop culture, as she shares insights from her diverse career in entertainment. My newest interview subject, Becky LeBeau, is many things. She’s a model, an actress, a singer-songwriter, a business owner and a website designer. If you love the pop culture of the 80s as I do, you’ll recognize Becky LeBeau from her appearances in music videos like David Lee Roth’s “California Girls” and Loverboy’s “Lovin’ Every Minute Of It”. On the big screen, Becky brought sex appeal and great comic timing to fun 80s comedies like Joysticks and Not Of This Earth. She’s been in the pages of magazines like Playboy and High Society, and on her official website, she’s still looking as amazing and sexy in 2019 as she did in 1989. I talked with her on Monday, January 14th, and I hope you all enjoy getting to know her. Say hello to Becky LeBeau! Johnny: Hello, Becky. Becky LeBeau: Hi, Johnny. How are you doing?

Watch The Trailer For Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy
In 1989 a series of strange births took place all over the world. Women who just days ago had not been pregnant suddenly grew large bellies and expunged babies imbued with superpowers.. A billionaire industrialist tracked down as many as he could, adopted them all, and revealed them to the world as his brand-new superhero team The Umbrella Academy! But it didn’t quite work out. The new family was rather dysfunctional, and instead of fighting crime they just spent all day fighting each other. Eventually the old man croaked, and it seemed like the Hargreeves siblings would go their separate ways….until the youngest of them, gifted with time-traveling abilities, jumps into the future to find civilization completely destroyed. It happens, somehow, in eight days. The Hargreeves realizes they are the only ones who can stop it, and now have to get past their differences to save the world. Can it be done? We’ve shared a lot of trailers with you this month, but this one’s the best of them so
Netflix Developing Resident Evil TV Series
Resident Evil Fever is high with the impending release of the second game’s remake. The production company that holds the film and TV rights to the series, Constantin Film, is striking while the iron is hot. They’ve entered a deal with Netflix to start development on a Resident Evil TV series. According to Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva, “I hear the plan is for the series to expand the Resident Evil universe and deepen the exiting mythology. I hear the series will keep the basic premise, which also served as a setup for the movie franchise. The drama series will explore the dark inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus.” Constantin has held onto the RE rights for quite a while; they were responsible for all six existing Resident Evil movies, though their content had more to do with director Paul W.S. Anderson using the property to create fantasy fetish stories about his wife (star Milla Jovovich). Anderson and Jovovich are off
Metroid Prime 4 Has Been Sadly Delayed
This is some nasty news to start your weekend with. Metroid Prime 4 is being rebooted and will not be coming out when Nintendo originally planned it to. Shinya Takahashi, senior managing executive officer at Nintendo, posted a video this morning where he confessed the delay, as well as the reason. “The current development progress has not reached the standards we seek in a sequel to the Metroid Prime series,” Takahashi said. “Nintendo always strives for the highest quality in our games; and in the development phase, we challenge ourselves and confront whether the game is living up to that quality on a daily basis.” When Metroid Prime 4 was first revealed (just the title), Nintendo said they were taking the franchise away from Retro Studios and developing #4 with an all-new team. They’ve since had a change of heart. “We have decided to reexamine the development structure itself and change it. Specifically, we have asked the producer, Kensuke Tanabe, [to] work in trust and collaboration with the studio that

Kingdom Hearts 3 Is Almost Here: New Gameplay Video
Thirteen years is a long time to wait for a sequel. The last numbered installment of Kingdom Hearts was two console generations ago. As one commenter on the Internet put it, “I was a child when I first started waiting for this game, and now I have a wife and a kid of my own.” Even after years of teasers and trailers, it still doesn’t feel real that we’re about to actually play Kingdom Hearts 3. But the store displays are going up, the YouTube retrospective videos are growing in number, and the early reviews are mostly positive (except for Polygon’s). It’s time to mousse your hair into spikes and strap on those oversized novelty shoes for the first time since 2005! Square has released a new “gameplay video” with narration explaining the mechanics of the game. Of course, if you don’t know how to play Kingdom Hearts by now, you must not have touched a single minute in the series. Much of what we see here is familiar: Sora,
REBEL MOON: A world built by Zack Snyder
“Rebel Moon” is a world that is built by Zack Snyder, and my eyes are feasting and liking what I see. This could have been a box office success movie, but it’s only on Netflix. Remember how fans rallied for Snyder’s “Justice League” Cut? The result was a mesmerizing 5-hour film. Even movies like “300,” where I’m usually creeped out by bare-chested men, held me sit thtough due to Snyder’s direction. He is a story teller like no other. Then there is “Sin City,” Snyder’s magic behind the camera turned a Graphic Novel’s storytelling into visual poetry. Now, he’s delving into space opera with “Rebel Moon,” a cinematic gem that could rival “Star Wars” and “Dune.” Despite its streaming release, it feels like a theater-worthy spectacle. The trailer had my jaws drop, showcasing Snyder’s grand vision. “Rebel Moon” promises to be another testament to his skill in whisking audiences away to enthralling worlds. Rebel Moon Trailer Algerian actress,Sofia Boutella is the fortunate actress who has secured the lead
Kristala at Play NYC | Astral Clocktower Studios on Souls-inspired ARPG
We recently covered Play NYC. a two day local New York convention that spotlights New York-based indie video game developers and tabletop publishers, Nerdy Thirty Podcast co-host, Christina Crisfield and I spoke with Alexis Brutman (Studio Founder / Producer) and Sarah Schaffstall (Owner / Marketing Director) of Astral Clocktower Studios about their upcoming game, Kristala. If you’re missing a souls-inspired ARPG with badass anthropomorphic cats, Kristala might be right up your alley. PopGeeks: Tell us about Kristala. Sarah Schaffstall: So, Kristala is a dark fantasy action RPG developed with Unreal Engine 5 for PC and console. You play us like a magic warrior cat who is embarking on this epic hero’s journey. And then simultaneously you’re battling to uncover the source of a dark curse. So you kind of have like two motives if you will during gameplay. PopGeeks: What are some of Kristala’s influences? Alexis Brutman: It was definitely influenced by I would say the Soulsborne genre in general, Bloodborne in particular. But also definitely classic fantasy like Lord
