Sony wanted to acquire Crunchyroll for almost a Billion dollars!
For almost 957 million US dollars, Sony wanted to buy Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll is one of the few streaming services where you can watch and binge Anime fresh out of Japan with either English Subtitles or English voice acting. Crunchyroll started as an upload site where fans uploaded fansubbed Anime. It was a former pirated Anime site like the defunct Kissanime, but it transitioned into a legit streaming service with permission from Animation Studios. Crunchyroll has 70 million subscribers and 3 million of them as premium customers. Basic subscribers can watch for free, but they would have to endure ads and have a limitation on how many episodes they can stream in a day. Premium members won’t have ads, and they can binge all day long. They also have access to exclusive premium content. If Sony successfully acquired this service, it would have a library of over 1,000 Animation titles from Japan. It is not the first time Sony purchased an Anime streaming service. Back in 2017, Sony acquired Funimation, A
Horror Short Dear Guest Hits Home On Halloween
Last March, Look At Me Films announced a new horror short they would be distributing on the festival circuit, “Dear Guest.” Given that it was March, we have no idea how many festivals that short actually made it to, but the short is about to get a second life on streaming services. In the short, a young couple checks into a rental home for their vacation, only to find they’ve wandered into a disturbing game concocted by the home’s owner. Ashley Bell (The Last Exorcism) and Noureen DeWulf (Good Girls) star as the couple at the center of the story. The short was directed by Megan Freels Johnston, the founder of Look At Me Films, and produced by Johnston, Michael May (Auto/Biography), and Bill Whirity (Prey). Megan has hopes that the short will get enough attention that she can expand it into a feature. It’s not the first offer from Look At Me Films, which specializes in giving filming projects to new independent moviemakers. They were behind the Sundance short
Halloween Greetings From Ship Of Heroes
We’ve received a new progress update from the team working on Ship Of Heroes, the superhero-based MMO scheduled to reach completion in 2021….and they brought along a Halloween-themed special video. Ship of Heroes conducted three of their largest server stress tests to date last September. Called Invasion Tests, they were the first truly open beta tests in development history. Mass amounts of heroes were summoned in the same area, and then the game was dumped with tons of enemies to see how many the server could handle. Though they were pleased with how well their coding held up, more tests need to be conducted before release. Here are the recently published notes: Creating and debugging mission content is one of the main focus areas of the SoH dev team right now. They openly say they are preparing for a launch, though no firm date has been set at this point. But apparently, this mission was created during the month of October, which augurs well for the amount of mission content
Free League’s Alien RPG Launches On Virtual Tabletop Platforms
Alien: The Roleplaying Game, based on the iconic movie franchise, was published by Free League last December. It’s since gone on to become one of the most successful tabletop products of 2020 — no easy feat when you consider the circumstances. Imagine how popular it could get if you could play it remotely. Looks like we don’t have to imagine anymore… A virtual tabletop version of the ALIEN RPG Starter Set has been added to the VTT platforms Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds. It’s got both the full-length cinematic scenario Chariot of the Gods and its sequel Destroyer of Worlds, the latter of which was released as an expansion last April. Both were written by sci-fi author Andrew E.C. Gaska, and all you need is the Starter Set to play both of them. Fantasy Grounds also has all 392 pages of the Alien RPG core hardcover rulebook. While the Starter Set isn’t as full-featured as the full version, it coontains a 104-page abridged rulebook (except on Fantasy Grounds), 20 custom dice,
Jeanise Jones, The babysitter who appeared in Borat 2 got over $230 dollars donations!
Two of the scene-stealing characters in Borat Subsequent Movie Film: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (What a long title!)are Tutar and Jeanise Jones. Tutar is Borat’s 15-year-old daughter, who has been treated like an animal all her life because of her country’s misogynist society on this fictionalized version of Kazakhstan. Jeanise is a Babysitter hired by Borat to take care of his 15-year-old daughter while he is trying to find a job so he can pay the last 75 dollars for her breast augmentation surgery. Borat and Tutar are fictional characters played by Sacha Baron Cohen and Maria Baklava. Jeanise is a real person not knowing she is being filmed and pranked for a movie. She thought she was hired for a documentary and is not aware she is in a scripted moment. In this scene, Tutar and Jeanise had a touching heart to heart conversation. She is not aware Tutar is an actress playing a role. She thought she
Free League’s NORK BORG Adds Cult Expansion
Earlier this year Free League brought out NORK BORG, the first tabletop game published under their Free League’s Workshop label (a sublabel for externally developed games, as well as a website for fan-created scenarios). MORK BORK is an artpunk RPG from creators Ockult Örtmästare Games and Stockholm Kartell. They say it’s “about lost souls and fools seeking redemption, forgiveness or the last remaining riches in a bleak and decaying world. Who are you? The tomb-robber with silver glittering between cracked fingernails? The mystic who would bend the world’s heart away from it’s inevitable end?” They add, “The world is dying. And you with it.” If you can’t get enough NORK BORG, there’s good news: an expansion is now available, MORK BORG CULT: Feretory. It includes a monster generator, new treasures to uncover like The Cauldron of Lies, new classes and, most importantly, two new adventures to embark on: The Death Ziggurat and The Goblin Grinder. “This expansion is guaranteed to make you descend into madness,” says Free League. “Because let’s
New Trailer For Halloween Kills
Whether we’ll beat down the COVID-19 virus by this time next year is anybody’s guess, but there’s one deadly enemy we’ll apparently always have around: Michael Myers. He was ready to start his slashing spree anew this Halloween, but the state of theaters in this country right now delayed that visit by an entire year, so…he and his machete have gotta wait. (He’ll be fine…he’s got a mask on.) Our first look at Halloween Kills was actually shared last July: the opening sequence that starts from where the 2018 Halloween left off. In that scene, Mike is trapped in a burning building, and Laurie Strode and her family have successfully escaped…but of course it’s NOT the end; firefighters rush down the street to his rescue. “NO,” Laurie screams, “YOU CAN LET THIS ONE BURN — REALLY, THIS IS THE ONE EXCEPTION!” They don’t listen. So now that Myers has a second chance, here’s what he’s up to. If these clips look ready to go, that’s because they are: the whole
Return Dates Revealed In The CW Winter 2021 Schedule
Looks like they managed to do it: The CW got its factory running again, despite the restrictions and precautions laid down by COVID-19. So how soon could we be seeing the tights-wearing heroes of the Berlantiverse return, along with everyone else? The answer varies. It appears some productions are more ready to go than others. Batwoman will be the first entry out of the gate on January 17, which is surprising, as we know they had to restructure everything and hire a new hero after the departure of Ruby Rose. The Flash won’t show until late February, despite having its season premiere mostly in the can (it’s the intended season finale from last time, which needed a few more shots to be completed). More shows are missing than not. MIA from the below list are Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, In the Dark, Roswell New Mexico and Dynasty, plus the new series Kung Fu and The Republic of Sarah. One new series, Jared Padalecki’s Walker, managed to make it on time.

Indie game developer Rasul Mono, creator of Ultra Goodness series, delves into Ultra Badness just in time for Spooky Season…his latest, The Guise, has been released on Steam. This dark metroidvania tells the story of Ogden, a curious orphan who stuck his face where it didn’t belong. The headmistress told him never to venture beyond that locked door, but that just made him want to do it more….what he found beyond the frame was a monster mask that bound itself to him the moment he tried it on. Now he’s been transformed into a horrifying monstrosity, but his newly acquired abilities may be the key to getting the curse undone. EXPLORE A TWISTED FAIRY TALE The world of The Guise is filled with terrifying locations, including dying villages, dark forests, labyrinthine dungeons, and deadly valleys swarming with demons. Funimation’s Picks For A Night Of Anime Frights
As one of the leading anime distributors in the US, Funimation is responsible for a lot of titles….some creepier than others. They’ve compiled a seasonal list of shows on their service that trade in the macabre. Not all of them are Halloween-themed or even have anything to do with monsters or ghouls, but they’re still unsettling enough to raise a few hairs on your back. JUNJI ITO COLLECTION Enter the twisted world of Junji Ito’s works of horror! Witness the most hair-raising stories from Junji Ito Masterpiece Collection and Fragments of Horror like you’ve never seen them before. For any fans who seek the thrill of shocking imagery and ill-fated characters, this whole show is made for you. You might have heard a new adaption of Ito’s Spiral is coming soon (though it’s been “soon” for quite a long time now). Why wait when other adaptions of his work already exist and are ready to scare your pants off? HIGURASHI: WHEN THEY CRY New kid Keiichi Maebara is settling into
The GTA VI Trailer Is Here NOW; The Game Won’t Come ‘Til 2025
Rockstar said they’d release the GTA VI trailer tomorrow, December 5. But then a leak happened today and the company was like “screw it, here it is officially.” Behold: for the first time ever, this is what a Grand Theft Auto made with modern technology can look like: I’d imagine Rockstar is fed up with leaks by this point; we knew about the Vice City setting and the dual protagonists from the previous big leak last year. They know how to make an impressive trailer though and if you think you’ve seen this game, you really haven’t. The soft pastels bring to mind the 80s-set Vice City from 2002, still the favorite GTA of many. This area has of course been updated for modern times with streaming phone videos, twerking, screeching Karens and alligators popping up in all sorts of places. And we now know the names of the characters in the Bonnie and Clyde single-player campaign: Lucia and Jason. Unfortunately the trailer also confirms we WON’T be getting any
Suicide Squad ISEKAI Coming In 2024
Warner Bros Japan released a full trailer for their upcoming anime movie Suicide Squad ISEKAI today. It’s just the latest in an unexpected avalanche of Suicide Squad related material from DC — we’ve had movies, we’ve had shows, we’ve had new comics and there will at some point be a video game. This reporter never thought he’d have to write the words “Amanda Waller” so many times. What brought all this on? Did some weird data from an algorithm dictate the Suicide Squad couldn’t lose? Because they have lost, several times — the original film was kind of a flop. James Gunn’s fix-up follow-up THE Suicide Squad was much better (it’s one of my favorite superhero films personally) but box office wise it didn’t become a hit either. Why so much, and why now? Anyway, pile an anime onto all that. The setup is that Waller somehow discovers a portal to another dimension full of magic and monsters, and recruits the Squad for a secret mission to infiltrate said dimension
