Pop Geeks Interviews Valerie Perrine And Stacey Souther
I was an early crowdfunder for the documentary Valerie, a film about Oscar-nominated actress Valerie Perrine that was directed by her good friend, Stacey Souther. The film is a touching piece about Valerie’s journey from Vegas showgirl to acclaimed actress, as well as her current health issues. I recently reached out to Mr. Souther about the possibility of having him and Valerie answer some questions about the documentary, and through e-mail, the both of them did. Before you purchase Valerie, here are some stories from both Mr. Souther and Ms. Perrine about what went into the documentary, as well as memorable stories from the both of them. We start off with my questions for Stacey. ————- Johnny: How did you decide that Valerie’s story could be a documentary? Stacey: Valerie has lead the most fascinating life. It reads like a novel. She was raised in Japan after WWII, She was a showgirl in Vegas during it’s golden era and a movie star in 1970’s Hollywood during the last decade of
IDW Announces Heavy Metal Horror Comedy TRVE KVLT
TRVE KVLT, which is pronounced as the words it resembles (true cult), is a new horror comedy miniseries coming to comic book shops soon from IDW. The series is the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign funded by creators Scott Bryan Wilson (Batman: Gotham Nights) with art by Liana Kangas (Star Wars Adventures). Here’s the situation: Marty, a metalhead who goes by the moniker “Tarantula,” has been working the grind at his local fast food joint for over a decade. He could use a change in his life, but he shouldn’t have made that wish aloud. Now he and co-worker Allison are facing a robbery, and soon afterward, they’re being targeted by a violent satanic death cult. Hijinks will ensue! “I had an idea for a project set in the world of fast food that had supernatural/satanic elements,” Wilson says. “Liana and I bonded over our time in the trenches working fast food and got more and more excited about building the world of Burger Lord. We saw that our
The CW Just Cancelled Twice As Many Shows As They Renewed
We don’t know what the future of The CW will be just yet, but we don’t take this as a good sign: the network just picked up three new shows for the 2022-23 season, but cancelled SEVEN. The new shows are the ones that were highly rumored to be picked up, so they aren’t surprising: Gotham Knights, Walker: Independence and The Winchesters. The first is about “Batman’s rebellious adopted son who forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader.” We’re hoping it will be a more competent take on Batman Minus Batman than Batwoman was. The second is just more Walker except more Western-y, taking place in the 19th century. The third is a Supernatural prequel series about Sam and Dean’s parents, ghost hunters themselves. The cancelled shows are Legacies, Charmed, Naomi, 4400, In The Dark, Roswell New Mexico and Dynasty. It’s really a miracle most of those lived as long as they did, achieving some of the
Netflix Resident Evil doesn’t look Like Resident Evil at all
Netflix Resident Evil released its first trailer and its harvesting Dislikes. I can see Dislikes because of an Extension that makes them visible. The movie Adaptations of Resident Evil, had always upset fans of the franchise. However it gain fans from casuals who don’t play the games. The First Movie had characters who are not in the Games, then the movies that follows turned the original characters into weak sidekicks for Alice. Welcome to Raccoon City is not good neither because it changed a lot of things beyond recognition. This new Netflix Original just made a New Series titled Resident Evil without Resident Evil characters on it aside from a race bended Albert Wesker. Netflix Resident Evil Trailer All the Fans wanted is a proper adaptation of the Video Game with the characters they love being fleshed out. It is not hard to do but this happens whenever rich producers who are not fans of the Franchise keeps getting the adaptation rights. MCU is successful because Marvel themselves does
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Set For US Theatrical Release
You want more information on the next Dragon Ball Super movie, you got it. Toei swears they’ll return to the TV series eventually, but for now, they’re keeping the franchise burning with movies. The latest, Super Hero, is nearly done and we’ll be getting it pretty soon. Crunchyroll will be distributing Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero in the US, just as the company they ate always did (Funimation). The plot is that Goku has to deal with androids again. Says the synopsis: “The Red Ribbon Army was once destroyed by Son Goku. Individuals, who carry on its spirit, have created the ultimate Androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. These two Androids call themselves “Super Heroes”. They start attacking Piccolo and Gohan… What is the New Red Ribbon Army’s objective? In the face of approaching danger, it is time to awaken, Super Hero!” There will be both sub and sub screenings, but the English voice cast hasn’t been announced yet. We’re assuming it will mostly be the same people who played
Attraction Turned Horror Film Scare Zone Premieres May 27
There’s an interesting story behind SCARE ZONE, the upcoming indie horror film due for release on the Terror Films Channel May 27. It’s made by a team that normally specializes in theme park attractions, and the project started when one of them noticed one attraction would be going unused for a substantial period of time before it opened. “The Universal Orlando Resort had built an awesome haunted maze right in the middle of one of their sound stages for Halloween Horror Nights,” explains Jon Binkowski, writer and director of SCARE ZONE. “And, because they wanted to feature the attraction in a late November theme park convention, the maze was going to just sit there for 3 weeks doing nothing.” “Ever since I first walked through a Halloween haunted house, I’ve had the same dreadful thought; “What if a killer has nested in the attraction and, dressed like one of the actors, just walks up and hacks me with an axe… would anyone notice that it’s not part of the show?”
AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative Delayed In Europe
If you’ve been waiting for the sequel to AI: The Somnium Files, you may have to wait a bit longer — depending on where you live. Spike Chunsoft announced a delay for European regions today, pushing things back in those territories by a couple of weeks. The new European date is July 8. The US and Canada will still get the game on June 24. Why just Europe? According to Spike Chunsoft, it’s due to “unforeseen manufacturing delays and global shipping slowdowns.” Odd that it would affect just Europe instead of the rest of the Western world, but that’s the situation. AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative is a sequel to the 2019 game from Kotaro Uchikoshi (Zero Escape Trilogy). In the original game you played as Kaname Date, a man on the hunt for a mysterious serial killer. The game took place in the future where Date not only has the ability to investigate crime scenes and interrogate witnesses but can probe into their dreams, among other special
Night Caller Comes Calling May 13
The indie horror film Night Caller will be reaching digital platforms later this week, after making the rounds on the festival circuit. A little history lesson before we talk about this one: there were a lot of ads on 1990s daytime television for the Psychic Friends Network, a hotline full of alleged clairvoyants who would give you a “reading” (literally from a piece of paper, investigations proved). They were eventually shut down; evidently the fine print “for entertainment only” on the ads wasn’t big enough. Since this movie starts at a psychic phone line, it’s unclear if it takes place in the past (the green computer monitor would imply it does). But of course, in THIS story the psychics aren’t faking. The central character, Clementine, has real powers and when some guy named James calls in (who already sounds sinister), Clementine gets a vision of him committing a murder. The cops can’t help because he hasn’t technically done anything yet. It’s up to Clementine and her friend, who also has

In A New York Minute Movie Review
How many movies in film history have been made about the New York City experience? Some might say too many. The perils of life in The Big Apple is well worn territory with each new production that dares to use NYC as a backdrop approaching parody at every turn. This is what makes Ximan Li’s In A New York Minute movie so refreshing. The film presents a new perspective, combined with fantastic performances and beautiful cinematography that gives talented Asian performers the spotlight. While the structure of In A New York Minute uses the time tested storytelling technique of parallel lives intersecting after individual vignettes take us through the plight of each character, the film forges it’s own path and manages to use this structure in a way that doesn’t feel rote or outside the ability of the filmmaker. It should be noted that In A New York Minute was produced by a predominantly female crew and almost exclusively Asian/Asian-American cast, which certainly lends to the fresh feel of the experience.
