Crunchyroll Acquires Streaming Rights To Chainsaw Man
One of the most anticipated anime of 2022 is Chainsaw Man, the long-awaited adaption of the manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto. Crunchyroll announced this morning it will be distributing the anime in the US when it begins airing. It may not sound like much of a surprise that it’d be Crunchyroll (who else is it going to be at this point, you might remark)…but don’t forget Netflix and Amazon are roaming around looking for anime they can poach for their own libraries. If it can happen to JoJo, it can happen to anyone. The name “Chainsaw Man” implies a certain kind of shameless hyper-violence, and that’s what you get. It takes place in a dark world where creatures known as Devils are spawned from the collective fears and negative thoughts of humanity. Someone’s gotta hunt them, and that guy was fearless teenager Denji — until he died. Oh, no, wait, he’s back again, thanks to merging with his pet Devil Pochita to transform into the powerful Chainsaw Man. “With dark humor,
Hulu’s Predator Prequel Sounds Friggin’ Awesome
If I told you Hulu was going to be producing their own sequel to the Predator franchise through 20th Century Studios, your reaction might not be an immediate “I’m there.” But that’s before you know the details. For one thing, it’s called “Prey,” it’s actually a prequel and it’s set 300 years in the past. It also doesn’t take place in Europe, but in the pre-colonized Americas, focusing on the Comanche nation. Within that time and place lives a young warrior named Naru, the most skilled hunter of her tribe. Soon, it’ll be her against a lone Predator who has landed in the area and poses an immediate threat to her people. This hook is dynamite. There are no guns, no lasers (except for what the Predator’s packing), no bulletproof armor… nothing that could possibly allow for a human advantage. The lead character is way outclassed and it will take everything she’s got to take the Predator down. It’ll be a true battle, the kind the series rarely pulls off
The Flashback Interview: Michele Burke
The interview you’re about to read will mark my 200th article for Pop Geeks, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the occasion. Michele Burke is an acclaimed and accomplished makeup artist who has won multiple awards for her work, including two Academy Awards for, respectively, Quest For Fire and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. With a career spanning decades and continents, I knew Ms. Burke would be a fascinating interview subject, so I reached out to her via her website and she agreed to speak to me. This is the end result, and I hope you all enjoy reading it. Say hello to Michele Burke! Johnny: You were born in Ireland, and grew up there in a family of 10. As one can often draw inspiration for their future from their family, did you have any family members with connections to the entertainment industry? Michele: No, absolutely not. I was the only one. Johnny: Alright. To go to my next question, after some time working on
MultiVersus A fighting Game with characters owned by Warner Bros.
MultiVersus is a platform fighting game, Similar to the likes of Smash Bros and Brawlhalla. You will see characters team up and fight each other from characters owned by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. I never thought I will ever see Arya Stark from Game of Thrones will team up with Bugs Bunny to Fight Batman and Shaggy from Scooby-Doo. Game of Thrones is an Adult oriented IP so seeing it having a crossover with Scooby Doo and Steven Universe is unexpected. The first Cinematic trailer is all kinds of insane but in a good way. Superman teaming up with Iron Giant is the icing on the cake for me knowing Iron Giant Idolizes the comic book character. MultiVersus | Official Cinematic Trailer The Game is free to play but eventually it may get from paid DLC characters and skins if its successful enough. Characters will reprise their most recent voice actors from previous media. Maisie Williams will be voicing Aria Stark to reprise her Game of Thrones character. It will
Eurovision Song Contest 2022 is won by a landslide by Ukraine
Eurovision Song Contest 2022 is finally over and it was one by a landslide by Ukraine. The Song Stefania by Kalush orchestra garned over 631 points! That combination of Jury Votes and Televotes is the second highest winning Score in Eurovision History. ‘Amar pelos dois’ by Salvador Sobral from Portugal is still the highest scoring winner of all time. It also made history as the first rap song to win Eurovision. Ukraine usually sends songs in English and the last time Ukraine won are with English songs and an English song with Turkish chorus. Stefania is the first fully Ukrainian song that won Eurovision. Eurovision Song Contest 2022 Winner, Stefania The lyrics of the song is a collaboration between Ivan Klymenko and Oleh Psiuk who members of the band. Oleh Psiuk wrote this song for his late mother, hence the title but the song’s meaning change to the listeners when Russia’s War with Ukraine happened. Ukrainians associate the song now to the plight of Mother Ukraine, their own country. After
Evil Dead: The Game, Is this the game to Destroy Dead By Daylight?
Evil Dead: The Game is the next attempt to make the next big survival horror asymmetric multiplayer online game. Dead By Daylight might be a glitchy mess, but its community stayed active even if the fanbase complained. There have been many attempts to make a game with four vs. one mechanics, but none of them managed to have an active player base. Some of them have the potential to be huge, like Friday the 13th, VHS, Home Sweet Home, Resident Evil Resistance, and Last Year, but they didn’t leave enough impression to keep the number of players active. Evil Dead: The Game is based on the movie franchise of the same name. Ash Williams, who is the franchise’s lead character, is even a DLC Survivor in Dead by Daylight, with Bruce Campbell lending his face and voice. Now you can play as Ash again but in his prime. Evil Dead: The Game – Launch Trailer Unlike Dead by Daylight, Where the Survivors are utterly helpless against the killers. Evil Dead: The Game gives
Wolfstride Launches On Nintendo Switch
Last year Brazilian indie collective OTA IMON Studios and publisher Raw Fury released a new, stylish RPG called Wolfstride on the PC. Now they’ve taken the experience to Switch, as of today. You and your friends — former Yakuza members, by the way — have inherited a giant mecha called Cowboy, and suddenly, you have a fighting chance at the ultimate mech-battling championship: the Ultimate Golden God Tournament. This, however, is assuming you can master the use of this huge thing before the tournament starts. Roam apocalyptic Japan, take on odd jobs, and track down parts to upgrade Cowboy. Take on opponents in a turn-based battle system where delivering and dodging blows depends on strategy. Wolfstride uses a unique combo of black-and-white visuals and anime designs, and each of the three team members has a unique ability. FIGHT Battle opponents in a classic turn-based combat system. Use Movement Points to outmaneuver opponents. Spend action points to deliver precision strikes and crushing blows. Hone your piloting abilities to dominate the battlefield.
Sci-Fi Strategy Game Cantata Comes To Steam
Indie game publisher Modern Wolf and developer Afterschool Studio have announced the launch of their turn-based tactics game Cantata on Steam. The game is currently in Early Access form and has not fully reached completion, but contains the first three chapters (with more to come). You’re commanding one of several different factions on the planet Shoal. Everyone wants as much territory as they can get, so you’ll be employing the best strategies you can think of to expand your area while defending the territory you currently have. But it’s not just rival factions you have to worry about…it’s the planet itself. Shoal isn’t exactly friendly to humans — the weather can get fierce, the plants and animals can get deadly, and you never know what nature will throw at you next. But you’re got nine playable commanding officers to pick from…domination or failure is all in how you play. Cantata will be 20% off on Steam for its launch week, along with every other game Modern Wolf currently publishes. Here’s
Pop Geeks Interviews Valerie Perrine And Stacey Souther
I was an early crowdfunder for the documentary Valerie, a film about Oscar-nominated actress Valerie Perrine that was directed by her good friend, Stacey Souther. The film is a touching piece about Valerie’s journey from Vegas showgirl to acclaimed actress, as well as her current health issues. I recently reached out to Mr. Souther about the possibility of having him and Valerie answer some questions about the documentary, and through e-mail, the both of them did. Before you purchase Valerie, here are some stories from both Mr. Souther and Ms. Perrine about what went into the documentary, as well as memorable stories from the both of them. We start off with my questions for Stacey. ————- Johnny: How did you decide that Valerie’s story could be a documentary? Stacey: Valerie has lead the most fascinating life. It reads like a novel. She was raised in Japan after WWII, She was a showgirl in Vegas during it’s golden era and a movie star in 1970’s Hollywood during the last decade of
IDW Announces Heavy Metal Horror Comedy TRVE KVLT
TRVE KVLT, which is pronounced as the words it resembles (true cult), is a new horror comedy miniseries coming to comic book shops soon from IDW. The series is the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign funded by creators Scott Bryan Wilson (Batman: Gotham Nights) with art by Liana Kangas (Star Wars Adventures). Here’s the situation: Marty, a metalhead who goes by the moniker “Tarantula,” has been working the grind at his local fast food joint for over a decade. He could use a change in his life, but he shouldn’t have made that wish aloud. Now he and co-worker Allison are facing a robbery, and soon afterward, they’re being targeted by a violent satanic death cult. Hijinks will ensue! “I had an idea for a project set in the world of fast food that had supernatural/satanic elements,” Wilson says. “Liana and I bonded over our time in the trenches working fast food and got more and more excited about building the world of Burger Lord. We saw that our
A Quiet Place: Day One Trailer Released
The original A Quiet Place was pretty neat: a suspense thriller where Earth’s population had been decimated by man-chomping aliens who see through sound, forcing the survivors to creep around as silently as possible — or else. The sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, was…well, I have no idea, because I’ve never gotten the chance to see it. I didn’t pay for a ticket, rental stores are dead as a concept, and the only place it streams is Paramount+. I do know that the more times you present the same idea, the less interesting and more watered down it gets. Take the six million Jurassic Park sequels we have now. Or compare the original Purge to the thousand Purges that have occurred since. It’s worse if it’s a prequel since there are no real surprises; you’re guaranteed to experience nothing but rehashed material. Looks like A Quiet Place has hit this wall. A Quiet Place: Day One doesn’t feel like the first two; it just looks like a generic, apocalyptic
Could There Be A Last Of Us Part 3? Maybe
When The Last Of Us was released in 2013 it sold millions of copies and won countless awards, but even with all that noise surrounding it, no one could really say for certain if it’d ever get a sequel. The thing about developer Naughty Dog is they don’t work that way — they don’t knee-jerk sequels into production based on sales alone. The team must come up with a satisfying idea first. Whether you were satisfied with Last Of Us Part II or not, ever since its release Naughty Dog has been getting the same question: “will there be a Part 3?” And until now, that question was met with silence. But co-director Neil Druckmann has finally dropped a hint at the end of Grounded 2: Making The Last of Us Part 2, which was released on YouTube last weekend. “The great thing about working at Naughty Dog is that we don’t have to [do it],” he said. “It’s always like, ‘we would love another Last of Us, but if
