Oni Press Solicitations

There’s a lot going on in Oni Press’s list of March 2024 titles….murder, robots, and dream balls. What is the NacelleVerse? It appears to be an Oni Press offshoot that deals entirely in properties based on toy figures. Five titles have been announced so far, from the familiar (Biker Mice From Mars), to the obscure (Sectaurs), to the “never heard of it” (Robo Force, The Great Garloo). The seeds for everything will be planted in NacelleVerse #0, where the Biker Mice meet Garloo and the Robo Force gang. The issue will be written by Melissa Flores (Power Rangers, The Dead Lucky) with art by Diogenes Neves (Realm of X, Suicide Squad), Francis Portela (Green Lantern, Faith), and some unlisted people, and will be released March 20. Oni plans to support the NacelleVerse project for at least one year and they have opened preorders for the entire line. Anyone who does will get exclusive editions of all the issues, plus a figure of Terbl, the villain from Robo Force. Barry Gifford

Past, present and future collide in the comics Oni Press is bringing to market this November. In BORN DRIVEN, you’ll learn the story of Wendell Scott, the first African American NASCAR driver — or at least his first story! The pint-size Scott has a dream to win his town’s soapbox derby, and if he can manage that, he’ll dream bigger from there. This one-shot book is 40 pages with art by Nolwe Azul Tamis. It goes on sale November 29. Who is the Faceless? No one knows….because they haven’t seen his face! Al that’s certain is that he wound up on the fringe of society as punishment for some crime he committed in the past. Now he’s joined forces with a group of fellow travelers to form the unstoppable team known as…FACELESS AND THE FAMILY! Cartoonist Matt Lesniewski created this four-part sci-fi adventure; the first chapter hits comic shops November 1. September will be a family-friendly month for Oni Press, as most of the books that don’t have Rick Sanchez on them are aimed at a young (or young at heart) audience. A few years ago Brenna Thummler brought the world SHEETS, a charming graphic novel about a girl who finds a ghost hiding in her laundromat. Majorie agreed to help Wendell (the ghost) sort out his unfinished business, which it’s taken two books to do. The final book in the trilogy, LIGHTS, will be published September 6. Can Wendell finally solve the mystery of his own death — and if it was an accident? Manga enthusiasts may want to look at TALLI DAUGHTER OF THE MOON VOL. 2, though it technically isn’t manga. As of this month (or as of three months from now, more like it) Popgeeks is covering the solicitations of Oni Press! Here’s what you can look forward to this May from the Portland-based publisher (where all good comics are made)… We covered LAMENTATION in an article earlier, but it’s worth repeating again. Everyone’s anticipating Razide’s Lament, the new play at the Requiem Theatre, but no one’s more excited than the lead actress, who considers it her big break. But as the days of rehearsal pass by, she gets eerie feelings as to what’s going on. The director is constantly angry, and his scripts are continually revised, becoming darker and more violent.
