Oh Boy! And His Blob! Wii Classic Being Resurrected
Wayforward Technologies has been responsible for a lot of top-quality video gaming ever since they announced themselves to the world with Shantae on the GBC (though they released a couple games before that point). One of their high points was the Wii revival of the NES game A Boy And His Blob. The original was one of the more quirky NES offerings, and I can’t explain it better than my old friend Polas did many years ago.
Wayforward got the old license and created a masterful revamp of the game, powered by hundreds of frames of hand-drawn 2-D animation. It came out for the Wii in 2008, but you can be forgiven if you never knew that….it’s just one of many great games in the Wii library no one picked out among the shovelware. The remake was published by Majesco Games, who apparently still holds the rights because they’re the ones publishing an HD version soon.
The conversion isn’t being done by Wayforward (it’s some smaller company no one has heard of) but they aren’t touching the gameplay, just creating a straight HD upgrade. You’ll have your pick of platforms when it arrives later this month: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Vita will all have it for sale in their respective markets. The blob returns to Earth in two weeks on January 19.
