The first two seasons of The Librarians, that wacky loveable TNT fantasy, both ended with a promise from the network that the show was renewed for another season. There was no such promise at any point during Season 3, the actors and producers remained silent, and there was even a “Save the Librarians” social media campaign that appeared to fall on deaf ears.
TNT has given no indication since then that this show was anything but cancelled, and since they actually film it in the city I live in, you’d think I would have heard something were it still in production. Now out of nowhere, with no prior announcement, here is a full trailer for Season 4.
“Wow. I did NOT see that coming,” says Cassandra. Who did?
Even more startling is that the trailer opens with a scene that appears to depict Flynn Carsen and Eve Baird getting married. It’s not quite what it seems…according to the description we’re actually seeing a “tethering ceremony,” which is designed to bind both characters to the Library forever. This could still count as a wedding, or it could be the Library’s version of a wedding — they’re not going to be able to get away from each other after this, so….
They may have picked a bad time to tie whatever supernatural knot this is — the Library is in trouble, even more trouble than it’s usually in. John Laroquette says it’s “uncoupling from reality,” as if it was grounded to begin with. Will the world’s greatest treasures be destroyed? Is THIS the last season? Will Jones steal something?
All questions will be answered (possibly) when The Librarians returns for another Christmas Break run starting December 20 on TNT.
