NYCC 2017: Batman: Last Knight To Be Scott Snyder’s “Last Batman Story”
When you think of Batman stories over the last five or so years, the name Scott Snyder instantly comes to mind. It was him that helmed the main Batman comic in The New 52 relaunch and essentially gave new life to the character in a way many didn’t think possible. Then for DC Rebirth he did even grander Batman stories with All-Star Batman. And now, he’s the mastermind behind Dark Knights: Metal, which is a Batman-fueled event. But, all things must come to an end. At New York Comic Con, Snyder revealed that the upcoming Batman: Last Knight will be his “last Batman story”:
“I want it to be my last Batman story for a long time,” Snyder said.
He went on to define what the story is:
“Batman suddenly wakes up and he’s … young,” Snyder teased “but he wakes up in this post-apocalyptic wasteland, crawling out of the sand in this Gotham City that’s been ruined. He’s got the Joker’s head chained to his belt, but it’s alive and like ‘You gotta move, kid!’ It’s got old Wonder Woman, Baby Superman — it’s like my Lone Wolf and Cub Batman story.”
Now, it should be noted that Snyder is still working on Metal, as well as the “Dark Matter” line that’s coming out of this event. So he’s going to be with Batman for a while. But, whenever Batman: Last Knight arrives, it’ll be his last Dark Knight tale for a while.
