That Nintendo forgoes pretty packages? video games and books are going in the same direction – it’s more cost-effective to download them, though it may come at the expense of meeting like-minded people in a physical store. I don’t see a complete transition, certainly not as complete for gaming as it will eventually be for ebooks. you don’t need to upgrade your system (update controls and software content) every 5 years to read a book on a screen.

Don’t get me wrong I certainly know that things are heading in that direction. It’s just that Nintendo seems to drag it’s feet on these sort of things so to see them start to embrace them is both surprising and not at the same time since in order to be successful they have to.
I’m happy to see them heading this direction with the Nintendo Network, I just didn’t think they’d get there so fast nor announce anything before it E3.
