Nintendo To Launch Five Smartphone Games by March 2017
Though still very young in its partnership, there is a lot of hype in regards to Nintendo and DeNA’s plan to bring Nintendo IP’s onto smartphones. The potential is incredibly high, but there are questions as well. For example, how many smartphone games will Nintendo try to release in a standard year? Well, during Nintendo’s recent investors meeting, President Satoru Iwata revealed how many games we can expect on smartphones in the next fiscal year or so.
“Regarding the number of the titles, you may want to know that we will release approximately five titles by the end of the next fiscal year, which is the end of March 2017,” he said. “You may think it is a small number, but when we aim to make each title a hit, and because we want to thoroughly operate every one of them for a significant amount of time after their releases, this is not a small number at all and should demonstrate our serious commitment to the smart device business.”
The head of Mario Kart is going to lead the way in terms of game development for the smartphone software titles. But, Mr. Iwata notes that more internal changes will be made to give these games the attention they deserve.
“Internally at Nintendo, we have executed several organizational and personnel changes in order to properly operate the smart device business, and we will make further changes before the first release,” Iwata said.
It’s good to know that Nintendo really is dedicated to this, hopefully we’ll get some clues as to what we can expect from the games themselves soon.
