Nintendo Due To Make Mobile Announcement Soon
It looks like Nintendo and DeNA are moving closer to revealing more information about their partnership and the games fans are likely to see on smartphones and tablets. According to a new financial report by DeNA boss Isao Moriyasu that has been translated into English, the company is readying to make “announcement plans”, suggesting that news could be coming sooner than many people predicted.
“We cannot talk about details but we are making good progress with Nintendo,” said Moriyasu. “The plan is to bring about five games on mobile to market by the end of FY16. Our goal is to boost sales next term by releasing top-level mobile games with Nintendo globally.”
Nintendo first revealed that they had teamed up with DeNA in March 2015. The announcement surprised much of the gaming media as the Japanese company had long since ignored the mobile market despite pressure from shareholders and constant demands by fans. As part of the revealing of the partnership it was also stated that DeNA would have access to all of Nintendo’s intellectual property and franchises, including the likes of Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid and Pokemon.
Later Mario Kart producer Hideki Konno revealed that he was hoping to have games released by March 2017 and that former president Satoru Iwata felt that the company should only create five games in total over the next two years to ensure they are of high enough quality and do not crowd each other out.
Even with the sad death of Iwata last month, it seems like those plans are still being pushed ahead. Moriyasu also confirmed that his development team would be completing their work to the highest standard in an attempt to honor Iwata.
“We will bring Nintendo’s first mobile game to market within this year. We will try to honour Iwata-san by executing as good as we can.”
