Nintendo Direct Recap!
Nintendo kicked off April with another major Nintendo Direct, which you can view in full here. This one focusing on games and titles that were either coming out soon, or would be coming within the next year or so. And to help facilitate all the information, we have all the details here for you to enjoy!
Super Smash Bros:
Super Smash Bros. had a big showing in the Direct. In fact, it kicked off the show by showing off the official reveal of Mewtwo, complete with trailer. He’ll be coming to 3DS and Wii U on April 28th for $3.99 and $4.99 respectively. However, if you were able to register the 3DS and Wii U versions of the game on Club Nintendo, you’ll get a code for download on April 15th.
A BIG surprise was revealed shortly after, as Lucas from Mother 3 will be returning to Smash Bros. This was an unexpected twist, and yet he’s apparently almost done, and Nintendo is aiming for a June release for him.

But wait there’s more! A lot more in fact. After consulting with series Director Masahiro Sakurai, Nintendo has opened a ballot for fans of the series to suggest who should be the next fighter included as DLC for the game. You can make your pitch here. But be warned, just because you make a suggestion, doesn’t mean it will happen. You can make your suggestions and send them “Directly!” to Nintendo, here.
Next, there will be new costumes for Mii Fighters coming to the game, many coming from titles like Mega Man, Xenoblade Chronicles, and more. Also, Amiibo’s will be able to transfer their outfits to the fighters. Many of which you can see in the video above.
Finally, as again you’ll see above, Nintendo has unveiled the next few waves of Super Smash Bros. Amiibos. Wave 5 will come out on May 29th. In July, you’ll be able to get Dark Pit and Palutena, while in September you’ll get Olimar, Bowser Jr., Dr. Mario, Zero Suit Samus, and Ganondorf.
Amiibos:
Furthering the Amiibo fun is a new free download that’ll use your Amiibo’s to unlock 3-minute demos of famous Nintendo games. In a twist though, they won’t be the same game for everybody’s Amiibo. So as Mr. Iwata noted, it’s like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get.
Mario Maker:
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Mario, Mario Maker will be coming out this September. It’ll feature numerous ways to create and build your own Mario levels, and allows you four different ways to visualize them. From the original Mario graphics, to the HD version of Super Mario Bros. U,, build it and view it how you want to.
Yoshi’s Wooly World:
Yoshi’s Wooly World is set to hit Wii U this fall, and we got some very interesting detail to go along with it. In the game, there will be two modes to play in. Classic, which will feature standard Yoshi’s Island like difficulty, and Mellow, which is easier, and features a flying Yoshi. You’ll be able to switch on the fly based on what you want to do, and thus shouldn’t have too difficult a time trying to beat the game in a pinch.
Also though, Yoshi’s Wooly World is getting its own yarn Amiibo’s. They’ll come in 3 different colors, and will release alongside the game.
Splatoon:
We finally got a release date for Splatoon, and it’s not too far away in a sense. The game will release on May 29th. Nintendo actually went in depth about modes that were recently announced, like Ranked Battle and Splat Zones. Also, they revealed a 1v1 local multiplayer mode called Battle Dojo.
To have even more fun, Nintendo will be releasing a set of Splatoon Amiibo’s to launch right next to the game. In a twist though, they’ll come in two different packages. You can buy them separately, or you can buy a 3-in-1 pack. These Amiibo’s will offer special skills and costumes to those who have them. So if you want the ultimate customizable experience, you might just want to pick these up.
Virtual Console:
N64 and DS games are coming to the Wii U, and not only will they be playable on screen and on the Gamepad, you’ll also be able to customize how they’ll look on the Gamepad in regards to the DS games, and set your own controller variation for the N64 games.
Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem:
With a happy heart, Nintendo unveiled the following trailer for the crossover to Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem. They apologized for the long wait, and promised to give more details so. Most likely we’ll hear more at E3. Until then? Enjoy this trailer. Warning, it’s VERY Japanese.
Fatal Frame:
The latest title in the Fatal Frame saga is indeed coming to the Wii U, and in the game you’ll be not only exploring, but fighting off ghost and spirits via the Wii U Gamepad. The game is scheduled to arrive later this year.
3DS Games
A surprising reveal comes from Hal Laboratory, who have made an interesting little puzzle-platfomer called Box Boy. In it, you’ll play as character who uses his box shape to form other boxes and use them to solve puzzles and get around obstacles. The game will come to the 3DS eShop on April 8th
The next version of the Pokemon Rumble franchise is coming as well on April 8th to the Nintendo eShop. It’ll be free to download, and features a large world for you to go and collect. You’ll actually traverse the world via air balloons that you can purchase to go to various islands and find more Pokemon.
The Puzzles & Dragons 2-in-1 pack is coming on May 22, and will feature both the main game and the Super Mario Bros. version. Each feature numerous characters and monsters for you to team with to take down enemies in your path.
Attach on Titan: Humanity in Chains is coming in May to the 3DS. And to get everyone hyped for the game, Nintendo will have the first two episodes of the anime series on the Nintendo eShop to view.
A welcome update is coming to Codename S.T.E.A.M. In it, you’ll be able to speed up enemy turns, so you can progress with your turns a lot quicker. Also, the Marth Amiibo (which is compatible with the game) will get new shipments in May, so keep your eyes open for them!
For the Mii Plaza, two new games will be added for you to have fun with. Ultimate Angler will allow to test out your fishing skills and see how good you are. Be careful though! There’s not just fish in those waters.
Also, Battleground Z will see your Mii going up against zombies in a fun, action-packed game. You’ll be able to use numerous weapons and techniques to stop the zombie invasion, so be prepared!
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D is coming April 10th, and to celebrate, Nintendo has released the following trailer:
Fire Emblem:
Last Nintendo Direct, Nintendo unveiled the new Fire Emblem game that’s set to hit 3DS. Now we have new details on it, some of which will make this a one-of-a-kind Fire Emblem game.
First off, the customizable avatar character will return, except this time you’ll actually be the main character in the game, instead of a partner/strategist like in Awakening. Furthermore, unlike many Fire Emblem games, this title will have a branching story. One that’ll feature different endings, fights, and character interactions. One will be very “standard” Fire Emblem affair, and thus be easier. However, if you choose the other path, you’ll find a much harder fight ahead for you.
This will truly be a Fire Emblem game to remember. Sadly, it’s coming out in 2016. Here is the official story trailer:
Animal Crossing:
Animal Crossing had a fun time at the Nintendo Direct, showing off a new game that’ll have you decorating the houses of the locals. Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, will be coming to the 3DS, and will also feature a unique card system to help you decorate houses to your (and your fellow villagers) happy delight.
Along with these cards will come the NFC adapter, which will scan all the cards and the Amiibo’s you have in your collection. The entire package is set to hit shelves this fall.
Mario Kart 8:
Finally, Mario Kart 8 got some news about new DLC that’ll be arriving on April 23rd.
First up, the Animal Crossing DLC. This package will feature 3 new drivers, 4 new vehicles, and 8 new courses to race on. Nintendo put a lot of time and detail into this, ensuring the feel of Animal Crossing was perfect from both sights and sounds.
And in one final twist, Nintendo unveiled that a free update will add to the game…a 200CC mode. Go faster, be better, and challenge yourself like never before, cause this will be the fastest and most furious Mario Kart races ever.
The Nintendo Direct no doubt lived up to much of the hype, especially since many thought this was a joke due to the airing date. Yet between the updates, trailers, reveals, and more, Nintendo fans should be exciting for what’s coming for a long time.
