Nintendo CEO Says E3 Will Focus on Wii U and 3DS, No Debut Plans for NX Console
During a recent investors meeting, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata revealed that Nintendo had no plans to showcase or talk bout Nintendo’s next video game console, the NX, or Nintendo’s upcoming mobile video games at the 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo. Per Iwata, Nintendo’s focus at this year’s E3 will be on the Wii U and 3DS; that is you want to believe them.
According to Iwata, Nintendo will not reveal more on the NX until 2016. He stated (quote translations via IGN): “We do not plan on talking specifics about the the NX until 2016. Presently, we cannot talk about the time period when it will go on sale or what it’s like. Because we are calling it a ‘new concept,’ we are not thinking of this as a ‘simple replacement’ for the 3DS or the Wii U.”
On questions of Nintendo’s mobile game plans and Quality of Life, Iwata commented: “Incidentally, we’re getting various questions for this year’s E3, like ‘Won’t there be a NX announcement?’, ‘Will there be a presentation on smart devices?’, or ‘Will there be more on the quality of life platform?’ However, since we understand that E3 is an event for dedicated video game machines, we do not intend to discuss the smart devices as well as quality of life.”
Now some of these statements could very well be a smokescreen, or Nintendo possibly trying to mislead fans to give them a surprise at E3. I realize Nintendo has no plans to show off the Wii U Legend of Zelda game, but I will honestly believe that is the case when I see it.
