Nickelodeon Rumored to be Making Nintendo Animated Series
During a recent episode of the Nick Animation Podcast (via Gameranx), Fred Seibert dropped a very interesting rumor regarding a possible, upcoming animated series on Nickelodeon. Per the report, Nickelodeon is developing a TV series that is rumored to be based on the characters of Nintendo. Other details are currently vague.
Seibert only said during the podcast that Nickelodeon is working on a series based a “world famous video game of the last 30 years.” That doesn’t exactly narrow it down. However, Gameranx’s report indicates that it’s rumored to be a Nintendo-based series.
Seibert stated: “We have a project now that we’re doing that needs to go unnamed, based on one of the most world famous video games of the last 30 years, that we’ve had in our shop for twelve years without being able to get it started. But there were great characters and a great story, and eventually we got it going.”
If it is a Nintendo series that could mean many things. It could be an animated series for The Legend of Zelda or even Super Mario Bros. Both game franchises have had animated cartoon shows in the past, with varying results. It remains to be seen if this is a Nintendo show, and what will happen here. Hopefully, more information is revealed soon.
However, it’s notable that Nintendo has been more open to licensing out its properties lately. Case in point, Nintendo is developing mobile games and apps now. In addition, Nintendo is now partnering with Universal Parks for theme park attractions based on Nintendo.

With the timing of their new console (the Switch is due in March) if this is true it looks like a way to boost summer sales of the console. It isn't just free advertising, it is advertising they are getting paid for, and that is the best kind. It would also be right in front of a target audience with pester-power, if not money.
