Next Xbox Require Kinect To Function, Multitasking Possible
Microsoft’s next Xbox, codenamed Durango, has had more details leaked. While Microsoft has not acknowledged the existence of the Durango yet, details of the project have been plenty.
According to reports provided by Kotaku, for the Durango to even function, the Kinect has to be plugged in and calibrated. Instead of it being an optional accessory to the Xbox 360, the Kinect will be mandatory for the Durango. However, do not fret, as the Kinect will be included with your purchase of the Durango.
This will allow games to be developed with the Kinect in mind and to provide additional motion sensor functionality to games. It may also be due to Microsoft’s patent for the Kinect to be able to monitor players and charge them for license violation. The Kinect will also be able to track up to six individuals in the room at all times which could allow it to instantly identify a person.
The Durango will also be able to run more than one game or app at once. While this is not groundbreaking for PC or smartphones users, but consoles have always been only able to run one game at a time. The Durango is now supposedly able to put games in a ‘suspend’ and ‘constrained’ state, which allow players to pause their games, switch to another game or app, then return to the first game without losing their progress.
The Durango is rumored to be on sale by the end of 2013.
As it is, we do have to stress that these information are from dev kits and do not reflect the final product which will ultimately be sold to consumers.

I think any type of “I, Robot” spy system is so NOT going in my stuff. I actually always turned the Kinect around to face the wall when I wasn’t using it, and if it is required to play, I’m glad I jumped ship when I did and I may be a Sony user in the future if I decide to add another console.
