New Super Mario Maker Update Broken Down
The newest update for Super Mario Maker is going to be bringing much more than people might expect, including some rather revolutionary items to the Mario franchise that have never been done before.
In a discussion with IGN, Director Yosuke Oshino talked about these additions. First up? A fireball shooting Koopa clown car.
“There haven’t been any shooter game-like elements in the Mario series to-date,” he notes that it’s because of the freedom of Super Mario Maker that these kinds of items can exist in the game.
Next, the “Bumper” item, which is an inner tube that can bounce players off in nearly any direction:
“We added this item to further expand the jump mechanics of the game,” he said. “We hope that players will create thrilling, maybe even nail-biting courses filled with jumps.”
Finally, the game will have doors that will come alive via an outline without the use of the standard “P” switch, though this addition was a little challenging for the development team:
“We really struggled with this decision right up until the very end,” he offered. “For the people making the courses, not having the outline would be best. Super Mario Maker is all about giving users as many options for creating courses as possible.”
Super Mario Maker is out now for Wii U.
