New Everybody's Gone to the Rapture Trailer Looks Haunting and Strangely Beautiful
Sony Computer Entertainment of America and The Chinese Room have revealed the latest trailer for upcoming adventure game, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. The game comes from the makers of Dear Esther and showcases the inhabitants of a remote English valley who are caught in a world-shattering event that is beyond human control or understanding; otherwise known as the biblical event that is the Rapture. The latest trailer for the game is available in the player below.
The new video is more teaser than it is trailer. The imagery and tone of the game definitely looks haunting and rather unnerving. The video showcases a pan backwards through an empty kids classroom. The room slowly changes from serene to bloody and disturbing and finally to strange and supernatural. There are appear to be ghostly figures or what could be angelic light in the room. The video is definitely intriguing and makes one want to learn more about the game. The trailer has an arrestingly haunting, yet strangely beautiful and ethereal quality to it.
Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is supposed to be a non-linear and open-world gameplay experience. It will be interesting to see the direction The Chinese Room takes that style. Over the course of the game, the player will have to piece together the fate of the valley using the fragmentary memories of the people who lived there. One wonders if that was what the light in the trailer represented. Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is slated for a summer 2015 release.
