New Details Revealed About The Call Of Duty League
For years, Activision has hosted their own eSports tournament for Call of Duty, called the Call of Duty World League Championship. Earlier this year, they announced they’d be changing things up a bit…that Call of Duty Esports would expand into a city-based franchise league, with games held in home markets around the globe. Those plans were solidified when Activision formally announced the Call of Duty League earlier this month.
Now the company has revealed more about how the revamped league will work. First off, here is the official, finalized list of all twelve competing teams:
- Atlanta, GA – Atlanta Esports Ventures, a joint venture owned by Cox Enterprises and Province, Inc.
- Chicago, IL – NRG Esports
- Dallas, TX – Envy Gaming, Inc.
- Florida – Misfits Gaming
- London, United Kingdom – ReKTGlobal, Inc
- Los Angeles, CA – Immortals Gaming Club (IGC)
- Los Angeles, CA – Kroenke Sports & Entertainment
- Minnesota – WISE Ventures
- New York, NY – Sterling.VC
- Paris, France – c0ntact Gaming
- Seattle, WA – The Aquilini Group
- Toronto, Canada – OverActive Media
Each of these teams will host two home games in their respective markets — one in the spring and one in the summer, with rival teams visiting to battle it out. In between these two games a Call of Duty League Midseason Weekend event will occur, where all twelve will be featured.
During the regular season and into the playoffs, Call of Duty Modern Warfare will be used as the game of choice and teams will battle in best-of-five matches. The teams with the best win-loss records will move on to the postseason, where they’ll compete in the playoffs until one team remains. The Playoffs and Championship Matches will be held sometime in the summer of 2020.
“It is an honor to introduce the Call of Duty League, built to reimagine what esports can be,” said Johanna Faries, Commissioner of the Call of Duty League. “We’ve partnered with top-tier organizations who share our commitment to supporting the best players in the world and to entertain fans in unique ways. Together, we seek to bring incredible experiences to our pro, amateur, and fan communities, and to blaze new trails for the future of sports entertainment.”
The Call of Duty League begins its first season next year.
