Trailers are an essential part of movies, they help get us ready for the film by showing footage, which by extension get us hyped up to view it.
For Avengers: Age of Ultron, we’ve almost had a sickness with trailers because they just keep coming! That being said, we loved them all and dissected every scene within them.
On one of the trailers, there was an image of a woman, apparently alone, in a dark and mysterious area. This was a very striking image, and many wondered who she was. Well…we now know, and the answer may not be what you were expecting. In a conversation with Cinema Blend, Marvel Studios President and Avengers: Age of Ultron Producer Kevin Feige explained that the mysterious woman from the trailer was not meant to be a major revelation, but more part of the environment of an odd dream sequence involving the Mighty Thor.
Feige explained: “That was just the imagery. That was just interesting imagery as part of a dream sequence… It was part of when Thor was looking around at the oddity and the strangeness happening and it was just an image marketing grabbed… it was just an arresting image which seemed interesting and when marketing presented it to us, we said, ‘Oh yeah, cool! This is great! Amazing, great work.’ And then it started to go out and I thought, ‘People are going to read into all this stuff.’”
So yeah, it was a slight of hand. Who knew? This actually could serve as a good lesson to us that not everything we see in trailers is going to be in the movie, or has significant relevance to the plot.
