Morbius Reaches Digital May 17, Blu-Ray June 14
Morbius has been the butt of jokes in nerd circles since it came out; pretty much everyone I know thinks the film’s mere existence is hilarious. In the comics, Morbius is a minor Spider-Man villain who only shows up sometimes and isn’t very popular. One common comment I hear is “How does a Morbius movie even make sense?”
It makes sense from a business point; if you own the one piece of Marvel that Disney can’t control, you milk that cow for everything it’s worth. Because of that motive, we’re going to get a LOT of tangential Spider-Man related movies starring bit characters who would otherwise have no hope of starring roles. Morbius is just the first to arrive, in what they call the “Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters.”
One of the most compelling and conflicted characters in Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?
If for some reason you need a Morbius Blu-Ray, Sony will at least keep you busy with a full slate of bonus features. Things like:
4K ULTRA HD™, BLU-RAY™, AND DIGITAL
- Outtakes & Bloopers
- Featurettes:
- Defining The Antihero
- From Human to Vampire – Visual Effects
- Lights, Camera, Action
- The Good, Bad & Ugly – Supporting Cast Doing the Stunt Work
- Living Vampire from Comics to Screen
- Nocturnal Easter Eggs
DVD
- Featurettes:

Sony Pictures’ Morbius will be out on Blu-Ray and DVD June 14, and on digital May 17.

Such an underrated movie! It doesn’t deserve to flop in the box office! The theater was so empty when I watched it but I enjoyed every single minute of it. Jared Leto deserves better!

The DVD sales is their last chance to break even with this movie. It is a great film but it was badly marketed by Sony and Disney.

People who argue that “it’s not a well-known character, it’s simply his origin tale” should remember that Guardians of the Galaxy was a relatively unknown comic title when the film was released, yet it was a blockbuster hit due to its excellent writing. Films with good writing perform well. Those that are poorly written do not. Morbius is a poorly written movie.

Everyone is talking about how this film has been delayed for two years, but I honestly didn’t notice because I didn’t care enough to remember it existed. Every project that goes through the development process fails. They need to stop making anti-heroes out of super villains. Here’s an idea: in villain movies, instead of making them do the right thing, make them do the wrong thing at the end. It works for Batman’s rogues gallery, but not for Spider- Man’s.
