Meet The Runaways In These New Screenshots
Until now we had just one photo to go on. But today Entertainment Weekly published the first comprehensive look we’ve gotten at the Runaways series, starting with the image of the Pride above. Don’t let their muted upper-class appearances fool you — they’re the WASPs from hell!
And the only ones who can stand in their way are their own children, gifted with some of the same superpowers. In contrast to the elegant first picture, here’s how the Runaways fill out a table. They’ll have to learn how to form a team.
When asked which Runaway is their favorite, fans have differing answers, but shy outsider Nico Minoru has my vote. She’s literally a witch and armed with the Staff of One, which gives her the ability to conjure anything — but only once. She’s the most powerful member of the team — or she would be, if she could figure out her powers in stressful situations.
Chase Stein (played by Gregg Sulkin) is an arrogant jock who thinks more with his crotch than his brain, bur armed with his scientist parents’ lethal Fistigon technology, he’s….still the same idiot, just stronger.
Rhenzy Feliz is Alex Wilder, the nerd — and he’s proud of it. Contrary to his stereotype, he’s the most social of the gang. With his action figure collection and Buckwheat hair, he seems like the kind of buddy you can really trust and put all your secrets into, ’cause he’d never betray you.
Rounding out this Breakfast Club is the “pretty one,” Karolina Dean, played by Virginia Gardner. All the Runaways come from privileged backgrounds, but Karolina’s is the most visible: her (evil) parents are famous actors. Little does she know they’re not from around here….as in, this planet.
Gert Yorkes, played by Ariela Barer, is the most outspoken of the Runaways, committed to moral causes and actively crusading for the community. And if you think she’s hard to deal with NOW, just wait until she gets her hands on a dinosaur.
Finally there’s Molly, another fan favorite for her unbridled optimism and childlike hyperactivity — in the comics she IS a child, but here she’s been aged up a bit for unclear reasons. Her ethnicity has also been changed — originally she was Molly Hayes; now she’s Molly Hernandez. Don’t let her tiny body and bubbly personality fool you — Molly is perhaps the most dangerous Runaway to make angry (assuming Nico’s still trying to get her staff to work). Any criminal who crosses her path could find themselves punched clear into the vacuum of space within seconds.
Marvel’s Runaways premieres on Hulu this Thanksgiving. Be there!
