Materia Collective, official licensors of video game remix albums, has announced an entirely new series: the Video Game Music Box. These collections retranslate iconic themes from Zelda or Final Fantasy into soft lullabies. They’re not the first to translate classic gaming tunes into childlike whimsy, but they’re certainly the most ambitious.
They’ve launched the line with SEVEN albums total, spanning 30 years of video game history: Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy VII, UNDERTALE, Chrono Trigger, Castlevania, and Pokémon.
“Music Box Classics will be a lifelong project, with each new album dedicated to a single game title or game theme,” says the uncredited arranger for the Video Game Music Box. “Each album will feature pure music box sound with no additional instruments. This is perfect for relaxing or falling asleep. And for those gamer parents who want to introduce their little ones to videogame music early on, these will be the perfect albums.”
The Video Game Music Box’s seven launch titles are available today on Bandcamp, iTunes and Spotify for $7 each.
