Maybe too late? I personally haven’t played it yet, but it seems to have alienated a lot of the die hard fans of the series, not sure if this will heal those wounds.

I’m doing my best to keep an open mind, but the very fact it is an explanation rather than a redo has me already sceptical.
In any event, the Marauder Shields web-comic is now the official canon ending for me… You guys should check it out if you haven’t already, eases the pain somewhat.

i’ll probably youtube it first to see if it’s even worth the 1.9gb it takes up on my hard drive. bioware needs this thing to drive like a mako to rescue this thing, because the story fell off a cliff after mars and exploded in a fiery wreck when you return to earth.

it amazes me that they thought the existing ending was a good idea. it’s a choose your own ending story with only one ending (advertised as more than 3 endings but was barely that, unless of course you’re color-blind, in which case you’re stuck with one ending).

Ugh I have to defeat the ending again?!

I was really looking forward to this game, too. A lot. Thankfully I had it spoiled for me ahead of time and decided to wait on picking it up. At this point I just can’t bring myself to care anymore. The ending is full of so many plot holes and nonsensical drivel that I simply cannot take it seriously. Bioware is really losing their touch.

Correction: they’ve officially lost their touch. Dragon Age 2 and in same ways Mass Effect 2 were the first warning signs. Mass Effect 3’s ending and many other parts of the game are just the nails in the coffin.
But more than that this ending controversy has revealed to observant gamers how the corporate culture at Bioware has changed, epitomized by the cofounder Dr. Muzyka’s blog post announcing the Extended Cut.
I’m done with them at this point. I refuse to buy products from a company that willfully distorts press coverage to dishonestly advertise their game, that spits in the faces of their fans (figuratively speaking) by bunkering down while they are villified by the industry’s press, and that refuses to admit mistake in the face of overwhelming evidence.
They’re a company of liars and cheats as far as I’m concerned.
However if a slew of developers leave Bioware in the next couple of months, I would likely seek them out and follow them because it would be evidence of integrity in a den of thieves.

those folks left before mass effect 3, sean. evidenced by the lack of quality writing for one. something changed at bioware and a lot of people didnt like it and left.

Besides reusing the maps I actually enjoyed Dragon Age 2 and I think ME2 is one of the most well liked games out there.
Not sure how they’ve “lost their touch” because of a bad ENDING to a game. It’s funny that nobody seems to gripe that the game itself, you know the proceeding 30 hours, was not fun. In fact most people that hate the ending feel just the opposite: they loved the experience.

I actually did some looking and found one good thing about the EC that hasn’t been advertised really. And that’s the fact that you no longer have to play online to get all the endings. They lowered the score threshold way down for all the endings to 3100 ems. i havent actually gotten to the ending yet to see how terrible the EC is, but i’ve played the couple of levels leading up to it, and so should know in a few days.
the fact remains that the plot device known as ‘the starchild’ sucks big ones and no one really liked it at all. and bioware lets you refuse to pick a color now, a 4th choice if you will, but it’s really an excuse for them to spit in your face some more, because you lose the game and don’t even get an achievement for completing the game. and bioware tweeted that the next cycle uses the crucible and saves the galaxy anyway (which is sort of like telling everyone who has a problem with the ending to go screw themselves).
so while i intend to finish the EC just to see it, I’m not buying Bioware any more. Not even Dragon Age, which is done by a separate team.
