Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite Reveals New Characters
On Saturday, December 4 at the PlayStation Experience, the debut of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite was revealed. The new fighting game was announced for a 2017 release. However, things only escalated from there. On Sunday, December 4, Capcom and Marvel dropped a new gameplay trailer, offering a look at the first in-gameplay footage of the game. Then, an extended gameplay trailer was revealed, which you can check out below. The extended gameplay trailer in fact confirmed two additional characters to the roster in Captain America from Marvel and Morrigan of Capcom’s Darkstalkers series.
Captain America and Morrigan are both mainstays of the Marvel vs. Capcom series, so it’s great to see them both back. Captain America has a new design. He still has the stars and stripes, but his costume looks more high-tech and futuristic. It’s a bit of a departure, but such are the times.
Captain America and Morrigan join the the new roster alongside Iron Man, Ryu, Captain Marvel, and Mega Man X. There’s been talk of the new game not featuring any characters related to the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises, meaning longtime Marvel/Capcom fighting game characters such as Wolverine, Magneto, Doctor Doom, and Psylocke would be potentially be shut out from the game. As a result, the Marvel side characters would mainly feature the characters that Marvel has full control over for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, such talk has yet to be confirmed by Marvel or Capcom.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is scheduled for a 2017 release. The game is confirmed for a PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC via Steam release.
