WARNING! Major Game Of Thrones Spoilers Ahead!
At this point in the TV series, Game of Thrones is now beyond where the books left off. And with only an outline of the remaining books to go off of, there’s no doubt the series will divert in many ways from where the books will go.
In last nights, “The Door”, a major reveal was given for the character Hodor. A fan-favorite. It turns out, the reason he only says, “Hodor” is because of some time travel exploits and a character yelling “Hold the door” so much that Hodor was created via traumatizing his younger self. As it turns out, as revealed in “Inside The Episode’s” latest chapter, this was revealed to have been from the mind of creator George R.R. Martin himself.
“We had this meeting with George Martin where we’re trying to get as much information as possible out of him, and probably the most shocking revelation he had for us was when he told us the origin of Hodor and how that name came about,” said Benioff. “I just remember Dan and I looking at each other when he said that and just being like, ‘Holy s–t.'”
Sadly, after the reveal, Hodor died, adding a true note of tragedy to the reveal.
