Lightyear Official trailer

Lightyear is going to be the origin story of Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story. It is not going to be about the Buzz Lightyear that we know though. Lightyear is going to be full Meta about the fictional character the toy is inspired from. Chris Evans will be playing the titular character. Something I notice about the trailer is they changed his origin story from the early 2000s cartoon about Buzz.  Buzz Lightyear of Star Command was originally intended to be Buzz’s origin story.  Everything I watched from that 62 episode series won’t matter to this film because it’s a different reality.  I loved that show but it got canceled.

It seemed like this time around, he is of Earth origin before he gets to his adventures to Infinity and Beyond. I don’t think most general audiences will remember that canceled show so Disney and Pixar will start fresh with this movie.

The Aesthetic of this movie didn’t go for the realistic Uncanny Valley art style but they made his skin more realistic and soft. It is their way to differentiate him from Andy’s action figure.  Tim Allen played this role from my childhood to my adulthood but he got replaced by Chris Evans. I believe the recasting is done so people can separate the man from the sentient action figure he is based on. If there will be another Toy Story movie, Tim could still play Buzz.  Fans who ship Buzz with Jessie will be disappointed because the Toy is different from the Man. Buzz’s love interest on this show seemed like a fellow astronaut. Jessie came from a different TV series so she won’t exist on this realm.
