Lex Luthor Is Coming To Superman And Lois, But He’s Been Recast

Superman And Lois is coming back for its third season soon, but the odds of it going beyond that point are painfully low. Those of you who figured we would never get Lex Luthor at this rate will be happy to be proven wrong: they just confirmed it today. Unfortunately…it isn’t Jon Cryer.

Cryer made an amazing impression as Lex on Supergirl and the crossover specials. He gave off the vibe of a true scoundrel yet in a charming way. This reporter thought he was one of the best Lexes ever, and doesn’t understand why anybody would want to replace him. But they’re doing it anyway.

It’s already been established that Superman And Lois does not take place in the Arrowverse (sadly), but that doesn’t mean we have to use all-new actors for everyone. Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch played Clark and Lois on Arrowverse shows AND here; there’s no reason why we can’t have the same actor for Lex too. But I can pound on my keyboard all I want and it won’t change the news.

The new Lex will be an older one, played by Michael Cudlitz — most recognizable for his role of Abraham on The Walking Dead. Lex also may not appear until the back half of the season — Season 3 already has an announced villain, Bruno Mannheim. Chad L. Coleman (The Orville) is playing that guy. Seems Lex only steps in during the last few episodes.

“Luthor is known to the world as the visionary billionaire behind LexCorp, but secretly, the criminal underworld knows who Lex truly is: a brutal psychopath who terrorizes anyone he crosses paths with. When Lex debuts this season, it’s been years since he dropped out of the public eye and he’s re-emerging hellbent on correcting a personal injustice by enacting revenge on the two people he feels have wronged him — Superman and Lois Lane.”

Superman And Lois returns March 14 on The CW.
