Lara Is Back (Sorta) In Tomb Raider Reloaded
There hasn’t been even a whisper about a new Tomb Raider from Square since the last release came out two years ago. We know the team behind the most recent trilogy has had their hands full with Marvel’s Avengers recently…but now that that game has underperformed, maybe we can get back to Lara, hmm? It’s been our hope that whatever comes next will be a departure from the recent doomy, gloomy, mopey world the last three main titles have used. A return to the fast-quipping adult Croft and her outrageously far-fetched adventures around the world would be nice.
Square DID announce a new Tomb Raider thing today. The good news is Tomb Raider Reloaded DOES have the original Lara in her green shirt, leaping around ancient temples and shooting at dinosaurs. It even uses the original 1996 logo! The bad news is…it’s a mobile game. It’s not from Crystal D, it’s developed by the much smaller Emerald City Games. That’s all they’re giving us to chew on right now. Bloody ‘ell!
It’s not really the first one — there have been several phone-only Tomb Raider spinoffs, 2015’s endless runner Lara Croft Go being the most popular one. The trailer tells nothing about the gameplay style, or what this game will be constantly nagging you to buy (it’s FTP, folks). The art direction is on the cartoony side, which sells better on mobile platforms, though we can’t help but wonder if an art change in the main series would be an interesting idea.
If anything, we’ll take it as an encouraging sign Square might be thinking about returning Lara to her roots. Tomb Raider Reloaded will be released sometime in 2021.

Well……..she’s………not. You think Lord Croft would let her out of her playpen to go to a place like THIS?
