King of Fighters XV announced!
It has been years since SNK Playmore released King of Fighters XIV. 2016 is when King of Fighters made a comeback and abandoned hand-drawn 2d graphics. The game stayed faithful to its 2d style gameplay but the graphics turned 3d. No one knows what will be the changes on this upcoming sequel because the Crowned Prince of Saudi Arabia is working to buy SNK.
Before Smash Bros and Marvel Vs. Capcom, The King of fighters is the first crossover fighting game. In 1994 King of Fighters are is a crossover of characters from different SNK games like:
Fatal Fury
Art of Fighting
Ikari Warriors
Psycho Soldier
Robo Army
This franchise introduced the Hero team as the protagonist of the series. They are an original team of characters. The hero team consists of Kyo Kusanagi, Goro Daimon, and Benimaru Nikaido.
SNK was in a financial crisis back then, so they make the crossover KOF. This game became their biggest franchise and from a crossover, it becomes a full pledge standalone series. The most recent rosters have more original characters than crossover characters. This game started the trope “SNK Boss Syndrome” as KOF is known for having next to impossible to defeat final bosses. It also started the team battle fighting game genres. Back then fighting games are mostly one of one battles.
Now King of Fighters is back with the 15th installment. King of Fighters XV.
The first batch of characters announced is Kyo Kusanagi, Benimaru Nikaido, and Shun-ei. Shun-ei will now take over as the main protagonist of this story arc. Which means Kyo is demoted.
An official reveals trailer is also announced this coming January 2021. SNK also revealed that that Samurai Shodown will have a crossover of its own on season 3 of its DLC. A character or more from The Last Blade will crossover to Samurai Shodown.
