Katana-Ra: Shinobi Rising Comes To Steam April 25
A studio called W.R.K.S Games has been working on a series of games, both tabletop and in video game form, that take place in a world they call “Katana-Ra.” The setting is a blend of ancient Japan and a speculative future, where pagodas and ninjas co-exist with high technology. You can read up on the whole mythos through their website, but we’re focused on one specific product today.
The first video game in this series has been announced for a PC release next week. Katana-Ra: Shinobi Rising is a third person action game where you are a shinobi trying to get to the bottom of a murder mystery. Someone killed an innocent child heiress and you have to figure out who, before it’s too late.
It really will be too late eventually. The game runs on a timer. If you don’t finish within eight hours, you lose. “As you navigate your way through the streets Clan Kata’s village, the entire game takes place across one single night and you’ll need to use all your cunning and skill to survive,” says W.R.K.S. “Uncover clues and solve puzzles and inch closer to uncovering the truth behind the killing. But be warned, this is a village where not everyone is what they seem.”
There are options as to how you can go about this. It’s one of those games where being stealthy is just as effective as being slashy. You can sneak around in the darkness, your foes never wise to your presence, and pick up clues that way. Or you can charge into enemy territory and let everyone know you’re there, then pick up information after making a mess. Your choice!
Console versions of Katana-Ra: Shinobi Rising are also in the works, along with future games in the Katana-Ra series.
