Is There Really No Current Plans For A Doctor Strange Sequel?
Movies are a funny thing. Sometimes when a hit move comes, a sequel is obvious. And yet, sequels can take a long time to happen (just look at Wreck-It Ralph 2). Other times, they get rushed into production so that they can happen as soon as possible. And then, there are films that deserve sequels, and we’re still waiting on announcements for them. The Marvel Cinematic Universe honestly hasn’t had that problem, they’ve always been very vocal about continuing their franchises when they’re successful…so…where’s the Doctor Strange sequel announcement?
We ask because the film was very successful when it released in 2018, and the character has been shown in films like Thor: Ragnarok and the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War films, and yet, no direct sequel has been announced. Even Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch, said to Entertainment Weekly that he doesn’t know of a sequel just yet:
“Not at the moment, no. The masterplan is continually in flux, so it would be out of order for me to speculate,”
So, what’s going on? Well, the obvious answer is that there is a plan for a sequel, but they’re focusing on Infinity War and other confirmed releases (Ant-Man and The Wasp and Captain Marvel) before announcing it. There’s very little doubt that it will come, it’s just a question of when in Phase 4. We’re banking on a late 2019-early 2020 appearance.
