Is Mega Man Headed To The Big Screen?
Apparently the less Capcom does with Mega Man, the more exposure he gets elsewhere. He’s in Smash Bros, he has his own hit comic book, there’s a new cartoon series on the way, and now there may even be a feature film in the works.
According to the website The Tracking Board, 20th Century Fox is interested in making a live-action film based on the Mega Man property, and has tapped Chernin Entertainment to handle it. Peter Chernin — who also created Crunchyroll — will be producing along with David Ready and Michael Finfer. Their previous credits include the Planet of the Apes reboot films, which they also produced together.
Yes, the words “live-action” are used, which makes one worry it’s going to look something like the original cover for the NES game. If it’s an actor wearing a faithful outfit (including the helmet) it’ll look ridiculous, and if he doesn’t have the outfit fans will complain about inaccuracy. Either way, he won’t look like a robot.
But hey, these projects go down the drain all the time and never see the light of day. Maybe this is all we’ll ever hear of it. And we DO know we’re getting a new Mega Man cartoon — developed by Man of Action, it’s due out in 2017.
