Infinity War Says That A “High Cost” Will Come To Undo The Ending
If you haven’t seen Avengers: Infinity War yet, and you haven’t seen spoilers as to what happened, you really should look away now, you’ve been warned.
At the end of the film, Thanos, who had all the Infinity Stones and the Infinity Gauntlet, snapped his fingers and wiped out half the universe. This included 11 major characters who were alive by the end of the film, leaving the “major character” death count at 15. However, as I noted in my review of Infinity War, while the move was bold, we as fans know that a majority of these deaths have to be undone, especially since some of these characters are going to have sequels.
In an interview with Variety, the directors of Infinity War, The Russo Bros basically admitted this to be true, but, also admitted that such things must come at a cost:
“I will say this: There is a real commitment on our end to the stakes,” Anthony Russo said. “Yes, this is a fantasy world, and yes, remarkable things can happen in a fantasy world, but-“
“They come at an incredibly high cost,” Joe Russo finished. “For us, there will always be stakes and the stakes have been progressing from film to film. And I think you can extrapolate that they will continue to deepen in Avengers 4.”
Now in the Infinity Gauntlet storyline (what the film is loosely based on), Thanos did the same thing, he wiped out half the universe, including half of the Marvel heroes, and the remaining ones had to try and stop Thanos, and they failed. It was only after Nebula got the Gauntlet and used the Time Stone to reverse everything did things get back to normal. Will that happen in Avengers 4? It’s hard to say, we’ll find out next year though. What do you think will happen?

That comment all but confirms a leading fan theory, which I won’t mention here in case it’s correct and spoils everything.
