In The New Movie Cocaine Bear, You Get Exactly What Is Promised
Phil Lord and Chris Miller are responsible for some of the most innovative and entertaining movies and TV shows of the last 20 years. The Lego Movie was their movie, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was all theirs, and their first creation, Clone High, still rules. They announced their next feature today, which takes their career to its logical conclusion: a movie about a bear hopped up on cocaine.
Yes, it’s called “Cocaine Bear” and that is exactly what you get. It’s based on a real incident in which a bear found the crashed plane of a drug runner and gobbled up his wares, but taken to comedic exaggeration. First it rolls around in a drug-induced stupor….and then it goes on a genocidal rampage! Two of its victims are shown in the trailer clinging to branches because of their belief that “bears can’t climb trees.” Well, a Cocaine Bear sure can! It can get high by several definitions!
Lord and Miller are just producers on this one: the real director is Elizabeth Banks, who does not show up onscreen. Keri Russell is the real star, so we’ve got a film coming about Felicity trying to escape a coked-up bear. What a time to be alive!
Cocaine Bear also stars Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Margo Martindale, Christian Convery-Jennings, Brooklynn Prince and Ray Liotta (who died recently, but not from a cocaine bear). It will open in theaters February 24, just missing Valentine’s Day — a mistake if you ask us.
